Aussie Jones was a Victorian rep, All-Australian and had starred in a Grand Final by the age of 20. Unlike many others he hung up his boots at a time of his choosing. DAVID RHYS-JONES caught up with the Saint with a turn of foot and reliable right boot.

RHYS: You were only 68kg when you arrived at St Kilda. That’s incredibly light. You didn’t have a standout year in the Under 18 s with the Stingrays because of injuries.
JONES: I played one reserves game for Collingwood and one for Melbourne. Collingwood sent a letter to the Stingrays saying “Don’t send this kid back again – he’s going to get hurt.â€

One of THE best foot passes of the football, over 35+ meters you will ever see.

Was my favourite player for years a true riches to rags back to riches story. I am also glad he doesn't regret quitting.

Bit of a Leigh Montagna type but more skilled with foot. Not my favourite player because of his propensity to kick on his left when he had the choice of his right. Whilst he fitted in to the "all out attack" style of 04/05, he probably would not get a game in 2009 because of his almost complete lack of defensive skills. He was the best judge of a kick for goal, on the run, from the boundary that I have seen, something Leigh might like to emulate.

was my second favourite player, hence the username. without a doubt one of the most beautiful kicks you'll ever see.

i was gutted when he retired, thought he went too early but reading that it's clear it was the right decision.
