It's not Luke's trademark being referred to - it's the team's.

Players assessing "Trademark".
Does that mean if you don't live up to your team mates expectations you get marked for a trade?
Probably means that St Kilda has certain playing ideals that lead to success and that those ideals are part of the team culture or trademark that distinguishes them from other teams.
You are then judged on your achieving of that culture by your team mates.
Luke Ball was then not living up to his team mates expectations of him.
Probably not running hard enough, kicking properly etc due his osteitis pubis.

Gardiner had a calf strain at training. The club immediately called it out in the media to explain his absence at selection.
There is no evidence of any kind of cloak-and-dagger culture. This is a fantasy sprung from the imaginations of forum posters with too much time on their hands.
If Ball has OP they would not be risking him in the magoos. They would be letting him "get right".

GT required Ball to play every week despite the injury.
The be tough and courageous approach to football is not always the smartest.

I reckon that it must be an eye opener for a player to get dropped by his team-mates.
You could believe you got dropped because the coach is a dill, has favourites, doesn't appreciate your contribution enough - because of a million reasons. To externalise the situation.
But when the other 21 who take the field with you tell you you're not up to standard there is nowhere to look but at yourself. Must be quite confronting.
It's become a pretty tough environment at St Kilda.

Look whatever its called its a measure ultimately to maintain a standard and improve if we can. Its fair to say injury or not Balls game has been stuck at this level - despite the odd great game - for some time.
Hes touted as elite in the Hodge/Judd mould I think the club are challenging him to become more than just crash and bash/in and under type. To be fair this is what weve needed as a club for a long time - ruthless efforts to improve.

Bartel similarly is an inside footballer who doesn't provide spread or run - but at least he consistently gets 30 possessions.
I don't know to what extent OP is affecting Ball's game, but if he can get back to his early career form I'm sure we'll all be happy... but can he break back into the side now - he has a lot of proving to do and is VFL the proving ground?
