Worrying that the Stadium security can't stop people smuggling it in. What if someone smuggled a bomb in? Would they find it.

Response was negative. Took the edge off a really upbeat section of the crowd too (we were right in front of the freak Milne goal and started chanting for him afterwards).
Could just as easily been a stick of dynamite.

This sort of thing happens when you play a team from Boganville.

I found that a bit worrying too, and slightly farcical as I had just watched an argument at the "security" tables where a can of solo was confiscated.

All stops out to make sure no cans or commercially packaged foods are admitted, but flares, guns, bombs, come on in........

Correct re soccer.

And incredibly rare at AFL.

Pathetic and disappointing and I for one hope like hell our game isn't headed in that direction.

I think it's a fair assumption to suggest that the culture is not one of Aussie Rules and is one of soccer followers.

You can't bring in cans but you can bring in plastic bottles.

They should be reported to the ACCC for uncompetitive practices.

Don't get all high and mighty Stinger. No need. There are way more dickheads at the soccer if you go by the number of flares that get set off. To draw the conclusion that the d**khead at saturdays game was a soccer supporter is just ridiculous.

anyone could walk in to any ground with a chest vest strapped full of god knows what.
if i can see people sneaking in bottles of grog then a flare is just too easy, you could prob get 5 in just as easy as one.

the only way to stop it???
big brother type xray detectors u walk thru
or
strip search 45000 people (plus staff)

and thats a lot of rubber gloves :?

Its not the first time I've seen this sort of crap at the dome, it has happened at the soccer games held there too. I saw several of them being set off during the Melbourne Victory games against Adelaide in the 2007 finals games.
Its all well and good calling for them to be "stoned to death"(?!) I think the real villains in all this are the Stadium management, who are more concerned about fast food being brought in than these deadly weapons!
Quite correct Jigster.

I reckon if it had been a foot-long Subway they'd have found it, no matter where it was hidden.

The AFL should just fake it. News story showing how the barcode scanners have new technology that detects flares. Some fake flashing lights and a fat security guard. Another guy with a ponytail wearing a "FLARE DETECTION SERVICE" vest. Most of the dickheads that would think of sneaking one in would probably believe it.

Does that mean I'd have to change my daks to get in?

......flares are not common at Melbourne Victory games.....the club gets fined and most supporters don't want. Even the active guys see them as bringing too much attention.

(I am Gold reserved seat holder on level 1 and go each week).

If you want to see flares at soccer and have a laugh check this....Greece v Russia
