Changes this week
Obviously now the dust has settled possible changes based on fitness for this week.
Kosi - Maguire ( to the roar of many here finally there is a real argument for Maguire to come in. RL has a like for like policy and this one makes sense. Lets see if he can play a role or not. Gwilt too small and plays in to Dogs hands who have an undersized team )
Dawson - Max ( obvious if fit. If not poses a couple interesting options. With the small dogs forward line perhaps Miles gets a look in, Begley is the other one. Blake on Minson, Fisher on Hahn, Gilbert on Higgins. so we generally have the bigs covered.)
McEvoy - Gardiner( if fit) . Gardiner arguable the best ruckman in the comp at the moment. Not a forward as plays on train tracks although does well when he can run forward from the middle and come in from the side or in to space).
Ball ? - probably a game at Sandy. Appears sore or out of form and playing arguable the quickest team could be an issue. Is class and will return, perhaps even as a small forward at times who is very strong overhead for his size.
Not in position
B: Blake, Max, Baker
HB: R Clarke, Fisher, Gilbert
C: Montgana, Hayes, Ray
HF: Schnieder, Roo, Goddard
F: Milne Maguire, Jones
Foll: Gardiner, Dal Santo, Gram
Int: King, Dempster, Eddy, McQualter

Most interesting selection night of the year for the saints.
Max to come in for Zac seems obvious. However, a couple of other things to consider. Gardiner comes in, but who drops out for him. Will they stick with King or keep playing the improving McEvoy?
Will Ball come back in? If so I think his week off was more a rest than him being dropped. If he doesn't come back and plays for Sandy, then obviously his dropping to me is more than just fitness.
Will goose come back and play FF? Even if he does, I can't see this as a long term position for goose. Will the saints play all 3 ruckman and rotate them via the bench and FF? Not a good option for mine against the fast running doggies. Will Gwilt be thrown a lifeline, or will the saints pick another runner? Will young Lynch debut in the fwd line instead? Will Blake be thrown fwd as we'll probably be a bit too cumbersome in our backline this week with Blake and Max.
Will Eddy hold his spot? If Ball doesn't come in for him, will Geary get another crack, or will armo finally get a go at it?
Very interesting....... Reckon many blokes will find out where they stand with the selection committee after tonight. One things for sure, Lyon doesn't appear to be a wrap for making too many changes each week, so any more than the two forced changes will also be intersting.

I'm not a wrap for Eddy. I like his intensity but he doesn't do enough and he has zero composure with the ball, and his foot skills are sub standard. Surely Geary is a better option. If not Armo,or even have a look at Steven. Need a player with a touch more polish
Seems as though Bally has been given a task to improve on,so he won't be back for a couple.
Interested to see how they go with forward set up. There are 3-4 options. Gwilt,Lynch,Goose,Mcevoy.
I'd like too see Lynch get a gig just too see if he can cut it already on the big stage. Can't see why he couldn't, presents very well at seconds level, and with the increase in quality of delivery in the one's it might suit him even better.
I have big question marks over Goose being a backman again, especially against crumbing specialists against the dogs and cats. However I can't see why he can't be used as a bang and crash forward. It's not as if Kosi dominates each week, but what he does do is smash the packs. Goose can do this, whilst still being able to pull down a good mark or two.
Also, unsure if MG is a certainty to come up. Where did I read that his scans on his calf weren't that favourable?
Will be our second best win of the year if we pull this one off considering everything

really doub they wuld bring in Ball isince he was dropped for form. He would have to play at sandringham at least 1 week.Legendary wrote:OUT: Koschitzke, Dawson
IN: Hudghton (if fit) otherwise Ball, Gardiner
McEvoy and Gardiner to rotate from FF and through the ruck, and Maxie to come in if he's fit, otherwise Ball comes in (Dogs have a small forward line, no need for the extra tall).

if hudgeton's not fit they still need another backman as fisher or black can go bto full back.Legendary wrote:OUT: Koschitzke, Dawson

therefore, either miles or geary for dawson (if hudgeton is unavaible)
and either lynch or maguire for kosi.
it was tried earlier in the year when kosi was out for 1 week where we put in Eddy to replace kosi, and i felt that as a result it was too much focus on Reiwoldt
changes this week
Ins - Gardiner Max Armitage( Gwilt or Ball)
Outs - Kosi Dawson Eddy Mc Evoy
Big ben has done nothing wrong but you cant go into the game top heavy
and Gardiner and King must play ruck because Bulldogs have good ruckman

FWIW, I reckon McEvoy out and Gwilt, Gardi and Max all as definite ins if the latter two are fit. McEvoy stays in if either Gardi or Max are out, with appropriate adjustments to the backline.
If both Gardi and Max are unfit, I guess Geary comes into the picture.
I'm expecting Ball to be out for at least another week.
This is a game we definitely want to win, not one for experimenting with Lynch, Goose, etc. There will opportunities to do this in the last 5 games.
For that reason, I'm expecting to see only players we have previously seen this season coming in for this game.

althought maguire does play as if he is a big tall forward, whereas gwilt plays as a third tall. so their actuall game style is different.
don't forget that maguire played as a ruckman early on in his career, so he knows how to play tall.
You think Gardiner is realy injured?......Seems a good idea to give McEvoy a few games before finals, our two main rucks while very good are getting on a bit and we need some insuranceNick wrote:Give Gardiner another week to get over his injury. McEvoy and King are fine in the ruck. Hughton in for Zac and Goose in for Kosi. Ball can have a game for Sandy.
I dont know why but RL seems determind not to play Goose My money is on Gwilt coming in and BJ playing more of a forward roll, as for Max he should come in for Zac (if Fit) but if he doesn't maybe they will think about goose in defence.
Just my opinion

Re: Changes this week
agree, there might not be much in it statistically, but maguire is a genuine, strong-marking key position player.ytw wrote:maguire does play as if he is a big tall forward, whereas gwilt plays as a third tall. so their actuall game style is different. don't forget that maguire played as a ruckman early on in his career, so he knows how to play tall.
gwilt has never shown that he is,

Totally agree Gwilt is more of a running defender

"I have big question marks over Goose being a backman again" and
Will goose come back and play FF? Even if he does, I can't see this as a long term position for goose..
So essentially it's being said that Goose is not a backman and Goose is not much of a forward...so what is he...trade bait.....
