GOOSE.. One & Only chance !!
I would think that if Goose is NOT selected this week his career as a StKilda player might be over. I hope he gets a run, but fear he won't.
Max- Fit = Straight in
Gardi-Fit = Straight in
Bally-Fit = Straight in
Goose ??????????????
Ross is not known for making wholesale changes, especially after a 10 goal win !!

I'd expect that Max would cover for Zac if he is fit. If not Goose will surely get the guernsey.
I'd like to see Lynch given a crack for Kosi. Give the lad a taster of what it is like in the big league. If the coaching staff don't like that idea then Gwilt in for Kosi. Goose as FF? I doubt it, but maybe.

Just how has the goose played in the last month???
Goose cannot play small and the Bulldogs have a relativity small forward set up.
It would be a hard ask for the Goose to play FF against Lake IMO

No....whatever the performance issue is that he was dropped for has to be addressed. It may be that just being dropped was enough..or he may need some gametime with Sandi.Eastern wrote:

May I just say definitely not Goose...xander wrote:who would u suggest plays against lake at FF. with Allen still recovering we dont have many options for KPF at the momentstinger wrote:i agree...would be setting him up for failure...imhfo......St Fidelius wrote:Just how has the goose played in the last month???

To kick off his return to AFL and up against Lake would be a bad call IMO..
To play Goose down back with the Bulldogs small forward set up is also a worry...
I would be tempted to play Milne FF with Scheidner at FP and introduce Lynch on the HHF

i agree it would be tough to ask goose to go with him but if not goose who would u suggest to go onto lake? He needs to be given someone who can cause some damage in the forward line otherwise he'll just zone off and mark everything. Playing Milne as an FF will not work for the whole game imo, when roo leads up the ground and we only have schinder & milne to kick to it'll be a problem.St Fidelius wrote:May I just say definitely not Goose...xander wrote:who would u suggest plays against lake at FF. with Allen still recovering we dont have many options for KPF at the momentstinger wrote:i agree...would be setting him up for failure...imhfo......St Fidelius wrote:Just how has the goose played in the last month???

Also Goose did seem to play his best footy at sandy when in the forward line so maybe we should give him a tough opponent... and see how well he can cope with it.

Because his performances at Sandy this year do not indicate that he is up to AFL footy today.ohwhenthesaints! wrote:Why is this his one and only chance, unless he gives up on St Kilda?
Unfortunately Goose is not going to be part of a Saints premiership this year.
Apparently he has indicated that he will go elsewhere if not selected by the Saints this year.
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell
I never said this year, I am saying that there will be opportunities if he can be patient....unless he has given up on the club.Bernard Shakey wrote:Because his performances at Sandy this year do not indicate that he is up to AFL footy today.ohwhenthesaints! wrote:Why is this his one and only chance, unless he gives up on St Kilda?

Im afrid the Doggies forward line is too small and agile for Goose...as is their defence. He'd be more of a chance to play agasint Sydney Id think
I too would love Lynch to get a game....but not as a deep forward. Roo, Lynch, Milne, Schneids, with Gardy drifting forward would test out the Doggies backline I reckon

agree. we're missing a strong marking (and not particularly quick) key position player in kosi who is crucial to our structure.mad saint guy wrote:I'd like to see Goose in this week. I don't really expect him to play finals but I think he's earnt a shot in the seniors to prove his worth.
to me goose is eminently qualified as a like-for-like replacement and, without being unfair, wouldn't have to do a lot to better kosi's past two weeks.
i'd actually start him at chf with riewoldt deep and get bj forward quite often as an insurance policy (as we do even when at full strength).
if lake does get goose you can be certain goose will make his presence felt and at the very least it will draw lake away from riewoldt. i'm not sure lake would show gwilt the same respect.
no sledge on jimmy, but i'm not sure that he qualifies as a key position player.

This could be one of the cruelest trade weeks in history that is coming up. Clubs that have peaked and are potentially on the downward spiral over the next three years will be bargaining hard for good draft picks.ohwhenthesaints! wrote:Why is this his one and only chance, unless he gives up on St Kilda?
Clubs such as Geelong, Bulldogs, Carlton and especially GC could be willing to trade in this years draft for someone like Matt.
The old St.Kilda in me says hang on to him but maybe that is the problem with "the old St.Kilda"

i agree with this, if goose comes in and only keeps lake accountable this is a win, so reiwoldt can be left to run riot hopefully. If goose chimes in with some goals even more a bonus. You want someone to make lake think about where he is going to run and gwilt is not this person. Players zoned off him like no tomorrow early on in the year. At least with goose if they have no one to kick to they can bomb it and hope he brings it to ground like we hope when kosi is out there giving our smalls an equal opportunity to crumb also.bigcarl wrote:agree. we're missing a strong marking (and not particularly quick) key position player in kosi who is crucial to our structure.mad saint guy wrote:I'd like to see Goose in this week. I was going through some old papers recently and found an interview with Corey McKernan, after he spent most of his last year in the twos. He was saying he loved the big occasion and that he played better the bigger the occasion and crowd. He said he found it hard to get motivated to play well when playing in front of "15-20" people in the VLF.Red wrote: I'm not sure Goose has being as
good in the seconds as people tend to think. I've only seen a couple but
there seems to be good games mixed with average.
I also reckon Goose may be a guy who likes the "spotlight"/big occasion (hence his TV appearances, etc). He may also find it hard to get up for games in the VFL, after having spent years in the AFL (including many big finals.) which may explain his ups and downs there this year. But if he was doing well enough to kick 2 bags of 5 and be named BOG in the VFL, I reckon he'd play even better in the AFL, like Corey did. This is why I'd be happy to see him in, to see how he goes back on the "big stage".
