That's another question...plugger66 wrote:But why should he be in the side?maverick wrote:Because its about the best option to get in the side he has...plugger66 wrote:Should be fine but if he isnt can I ask why would Goose come in?
I suppose because everyone on here and everyone in the media, that haven't seen a Zebras game, will simply demand he comes in....

that is unlikely to sway the coach and selectors. gardiner as the second marking target is not a bad idea and probably the more likely move, but who knows.maverick wrote: That's another question...

they might want to go in with their best rucking division of gardiner and king. i did think mcevoy was good today, though, and is clearly a player with a future.

Reloose the Goose!!!
As we can't select Sautner, Goose is the next big forward who's shown any ability to kick multiple goals. Would have thought they would rather play Lynch when he's the 3rd or 4th forward as opposed to the 2nd.
Kosi fine in terms of MRP (IMO) but then again I also doubted that Ball was actually dropped. If Kosi needs a week or two to get over split webbing then he should take it now, no point in letting something like that linger in the lead up to finals.

You want to play 3 huge, relatively slow to very slow blokes, against one of the quickest teams in the comp?boneless23 wrote:If Gardiner is fit I would bring him in to play the second tall and leave King and McEvoy to play in the ruck.
The way Gardi has been cluncking them lately, he would severley stretch the Dogs backline.
YOU GET WHAT YOU SETTLE FOR.
Gerard Healy was pushing the agenda that he had a lump on his hand, like it could have been more than split webbing.saintsrus wrote:most likely precautionary, strange they wouldnt do it last nightbergholt wrote:The Age injury list reckons:

Gardy back for Mac if fit..and no other changes unless Kosi doesnt come up..in which case Id be tempted to play an Geary or Armo..
Sorry..its crazy talk to suggest bringing in Goose as a 2nd tall forward. Whichever of Lake/Morris went to him would rip him a newie Im afraid. These blokes are AA defenders and unless Im mistaken Goose has never played an AFL game as a forward
Minson/Hudson are one of the better ruck combo's around atm..and the last thing we need is them putting it down the throat of Gilbee/Higgins/Boyd etc
Need our A ruck combo if they are fit.

I'd love to see Goose come into the side, he'd definately put his best foot forward! Gardiner would be the most sensible option for FF, if he's recovered from the thigh complaint that is. (Still, love to see goose back!)
When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

whether it is kosi or gardiner or goose or bj or someone else, i'd like to see another genuine marking target to take the pressure off riewoldt.saint66au wrote:unless Kosi doesnt come up..in which case Id be tempted to play an Geary or Armo.
this game will be a big test for us regardless. i rate the doggies almost as highly as the cats and they are a genuine threat.

Well, they're small and fast, which won't really bother our forward line. However, I'd expect there could be some reshuffling to bring in either an Armo mid/forward (a big test for him), another small back like Miles, or a fast leading forward like Lynch. All are untried so far this season.bigcarl wrote:whether it is kosi or gardiner or goose or bj or someone else, i'd like to see another genuine marking target to take the pressure off riewoldt.saint66au wrote:unless Kosi doesnt come up..in which case Id be tempted to play an Geary or Armo.

Can't see a spot for Goose. He might have had a dob up forward in the VFL once or twice, but he's not an option in the AFL IMO. Too slow down back as we'll already have their big guys covered, leaving an army of quick small forwards to cover.

How could they tell it was completely strapped up.BelfastSaint wrote:The commentators mentioned after the game that there appeared to be a lump or bruise on the back of Kosi's hand ....bergholt wrote:The Age injury list reckons:

My worry on seeing it was a hairline fracture. They can take ages to get over.
If a replacement needed I would bring in Jimmy G, Morris and Lake tend to enjoy running off our big two forwards

maybe so, but jimmy has five goals for the season and kosi has 35.terry smith rules wrote:If a replacement needed I would bring in Jimmy G, Morris and Lake tend to enjoy running off our big two forwards
i take the point about the bulldogs being a small, fast team, but structurally two big forwards has worked well for us for most of the season.

The Dogs now have ample height down back. Lake, Morris and willimas.
We don't want to playa ruckman down there permanently.
Don't mind if one drifts forward though.
If Kosi is out..great chance to trial another in case Roo or Kosi go down comes finals time.
Would love to see Goose get a crack.
Gwilt is a "known: quantity...and is not a KPP.
You might trial Lynch to givea game...but I don't really see him as 2009 finals material.

Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
If Kosi misses this week surely MaGuire will be given a chance at Full Forward!!?? For crying out loud, it's round 17 already, if we don't try him out now we never will. If Kosi has damaged his hand it would be better for him to take off the next 3 weeks and tell Maguire he will play FF for 3 weeks in order to get him match fit for the finals. Kosi would then come back in round 20 and we would definitely know if MaGuire can cut the mustard.

I would have thought that, if Goose was ever going to come into the team as a FF, the club would have made sure that he wasn't pushed back into the backline for the Zebras, which is where he has been playing in recent weeks.
Sure, Gwilt doesn't kick that many goals. But I think he would cause some problems against the Bulldogs defence.
Lynch is another option, but is the Bulldogs game the one to try him out?
By my calculations, a solid win against the Bulldogs will guarantee us a top 2 spot, as well as helping to demoralise a major rival for a GF spot. If we win that one, I reckon we can start experimenting at Launceston and subsequent games.
I would have thought that Gwilt was the safe and logical selection.

IF Kosi is out Maguire is the logical replacement at FF. Like for Like
Gardiner is not a FF. Anyone who saw the 2005 GF will attest to that . He does well running forward and in to space but is on railway tracks when coming out of the square and is too easy to spoil with thrid man up .
If Gardiner fit he will come in for McEvoy and would ot be surprised to see Ball back in also , although against the dogs they may give him another week and keep the speed of Eddy there.
