Blakes Game :)
what a blinder.
blake and Gilbert intercepted almost everything that came there way.
thomson put his pit bull terrier rooke on fisher and slowed fish's run but fish trounced him in the air and on the ground as well.
outstanding team effort in Defence.
given the barrage the cats delivered against the saints, the defence quite often caught out without the midfield support due the cats extreme speed convincingly held the line.
was stirring stuff.

Mmm. Far gap between Nick and the rest and not too many easy chips to Nick either.saintbrat wrote: 1 Nick Riewoldt St Kilda 133

shocking disposal from black...only 92% accuracy...(yes i know chips around the back 50 ><)
pretty sure i saw some long kicks to the forward line from him though.
and if its so damn easy, why isn't every other backman kicking at 92% accuracy ><.

One of the great parts of the day was in the Victory Room after the game.
(And credit to the room for living up to it's name 24/7 nowadays)
Blakey was interviewed by Bruce Eva and described the day as 'emotional'.
150 games for our great club and one of the best wins he'd been involved in.
It would be great if some on here could see just how much playing for St Kilda means to most of the players and that any deficiencies are not generally due to lack of effort/lack of care.
He's a good one The Blake.

Hehe...I remember how uncomfortable he looked sitting on the couch at home, when they televised his name being called out by St Kilda at the draft. I'm glad he's with us, one of the games true utilities (along with guys like Goodes) and a shrewd acquisition.
Looking forward to his 200th, well earned. Go Blakey!

Actually it's interesting that differing sites have different match stats.halcyon wrote:great game Blakey...as always. Dawson must still be in a Honeymoon period with fans. If Blake generated Dawson's stats - 5 kicks, 4 clangers and 4 frees against, he would have been crucified by fans....
Pro-Stats show Dawson as having 11 disposals (10 unc) 7 one percenters, 3 frees against, no errors (clangers?) and 9 Rebound 50's.
That's a much healthier game than the stats quoted above would convey.
Back to the OP
Jason Blake has long been an unsung hero of our CLub.
Has always tried 100% to do whatever task his coaches have asked of him.
Not overly blessed with talent, he will never be accused of failing to not give himself every opportunity to succeed at AFL level.
If someone ever asks you to give them a description of the term GOP you could just reply with the name Jason Blake.
Well done Blakey.
Not many VFL/AFL players make it to 100 games. He's made it to 150 and still going strong.
I'll gfo one better.Mr Magic wrote:

JB has managed to get every little piece of ability out of his god given talents (which aren't elite at AFL level by any means).
What you will get with JB is a contest, each and every time. Never shirks the contest and always gives 100%.
has played some wonderful games for the Saints as well. Tagging and running off Goodes int he final in 04, being switched to the midfield against Hawthorn to kick 3 third term goals, rucking against giants and always giving his all.
JB is a credit to himself and the STKFC. We should all be proud that he played so well on his 150th.
Well Done.
Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

Yep, you gotta love the Blake!!
I have to stay that at times he has frustrated with some of his clangers.... but the important thing was that he has NEVER shirked responsibility. Many players who have made the occasional clanger like JB has would shrink away from taking possession of the ball, setting up play again in the future. NOT the Blake. He always bounces back and ALWAYS puts in 100%.
Not only that but he has IMPROVED this year. Far fewer clangers. His current role as 3rd defender/utility suits him to a T and he is playing good, solid footy.

I'm going to make a suggestion that might surprise and I'm sorry if it has been mentioned somewhere else before but I think JB loves getting up for the big games against the AFL's best.
Take his game against Hawthorn last year for example. Can anyone else remember a big game where Blakey played a blinder?

Runs on confidence, big time. Destroyed Hawthorn last year, but was attrocious against the Swans in Sydney not long after. The team is up and running this year, and so is he. Having said that, he has the flexibility to play in many positions, so is also experimented with a lot...it's rare that he completely fails.Cairnsman wrote:I'm going to make a suggestion that might surprise and I'm sorry if it has been mentioned somewhere else before but I think JB loves getting up for the big games against the AFL's best.

Am not a huge Blake fan
but the guy was a STAR on the weekend. Best game I've seen him play for a while. Absolutely tore his opponent apart and was seemingly the glue that held the backline together.
I still think that Max needs to come into the team at the expense of one of Blake or Dawson (for the sake of balance). Up until now I always thought it was clearly Blake, on that performance I have no idea now.

Took 18 marks in our win against Collingwood in the semi final last year.Cairnsman wrote:I'm going to make a suggestion that might surprise and I'm sorry if it has been mentioned somewhere else before but I think JB loves getting up for the big games against the AFL's best.

Was also one of our few who kept going in that last quarter disaster in the prelim against sydney 05.
Also... 1468 people have played for St.Kilda at the highest level.
Only 45 of those have played more games then Jason Blake.
And he has played in an era where we will make 5 finals campaigns in 10 years, so we haven't been terrible (with the exception of his first couple of seasons.)
Has done very well for himself.
