Free Kick Count
Yeah I know whatever we won
but Geelong 22 Saints 14
We got absolute shafted by the umpires and they pretty much well kept Geelong in the game
Some of the decisions were truly mind boggling

The umpires were a blight on this magnificent game.
I would have to agree, even having umpired previously it was obvious that the umpires had a shocker today, some decisions were mind boggling, the last free kick against Milne didn't make sense and the one against Lenny when he was out of bounds and paid against for holding the ball when it was out of play already?????
A review by the umpires this week should have those three today umpiring the game with the lowest priority next weekend not the best game.

I don't think we got one marking infringement free. The holding frees all seemed to go to Geelong. That one on Milne I'm still not sure what that was all about.
It may seem like complaining but you want to see your team play and get a fair go. Its extremely frustrating and it makes you wonder why it happens more often than not (speaking in general and not just about Saints games).

Yeah, the problem is... a lot of the decisions... you had to think... what?
Like Milne... you're going.. what? what was that for?
I am not someone who has EVER complained about umps before... I just thought that they didn't pick some more obvious ones, and they did pick ones that had me completely baffled.

Did you watch the game?m_m wrote:definately wouldn't say that...last quarter defs went in your favour
At NO point did it "go in our favour"
The Milne one? WTF was that for and that was in the last quarter, Corey takes on 2 Saints and gets pulled down no disposal, turned onto his back no holding the ball also in the last quarter. The umps were totally crap.
No wonder Geelong has won so many games

The maggots single-handedly prevented a slaughter in the 1st quarter, refused to pay holding the ball against the Cats all day (as per usual), paid weird 'advantages' to us all day and stimied just about every attempt we made to break the game open in the 3rd and 4th.
Glad we won, we deserved it, should have been by 6 goals...but at least we know we creamed the Cats. WOO!!!

I have to confess.......
I couldn't watch the game........well....not after the rubbish decisions in the first quarter......I cracked it BIG TIME.
I did however set the VCR and can now sit back and watch the game in a more relaxed fasion!
The holding the ball decision against Milney, the 50 metres against Jones and the free kick to Varcoe just sent me off the planet........had to go for a long long long walk with the dog.
Well done saints and I will look forward to watching you beat the cats AND umpires!

Disagree.... I actually thought the umps were good for 99% of the game... put the whistle away and let the 2 teams slug it out.... they let themselves down a couple of times in the last quarter.... but neither side could say they had much of a say on the game.

how does anyone ever pick a free kick out of a ruck contest? far as i can tell, everyone grabs everyone else, our guys included. unless there's high contact or an obvious push, it's basically no free.3rd generation saint wrote:We should have had at least half a dozen free kicks from ruck infringments.
I thought in the first and second quarter there were times when the umpires were trying to get Geelong back in it - this is the AFL's marquee game, they couldn't let it turn into a blow out.
It's all academic though, we won, we got the four points
