i know of at least six clubs who would want him....
at least he will have somewhere to go after this year - although who would he match up on against us?
not
kosi
or roo
so who
bit of tongue in cheek - i love the goose - big contested marks big bombs down the ground - but i guess we do not play that style anymore...
will be gutted but would not be surprised....

I reckon it's got to be a real kick in the guts to Goose, especially to not even be one of the 4 "in's". Very disappointing, like when X Clarke was left out in favour of Eddy, earlier in the year, despite X having been dominating in the VFL in the weeks previous.
I wouldn't blame Goose if he left, as he could go to a club that appreciates him and badly needs someone for CHB or CHF. I reckon he'd really lift if he was playing AFL, as he seems to really like the "big stage"/spotlight. He's probably bored out of his mind and very uninspired in the VFL. It seems like we're going to make the same mistake with him as Hawthorn did with Zac last year.

I'm very happy with our coaching department. It's a proven formula so far
this season.
It's hard to argue this. We all are bewildered by certain decisions at times
but there's a reason we are not on the coaching panel.
That being said it's hard for us to understand Ross saying Goose is there
for when Max may retire in 2010 and yet when Max is injured Goose still
doesn't get a go ?
As usual the club will know better though and hopefully we will win and
the logic will be revealed.
The reason I see is that Geelong has many dangerous small forwards
including Byrnes who after years seems to have found something to hang his hat on.
Add Chapman, Johnson, Varcoe (who I thought was no good last year)
and our defence could have been too tall.
This small and fast attack probably doesn't suit Goose.

A further thought is that our great defensive record so far this year is
only in small part due to Max's three games.
The defence is proven without him (maybe better with though)
So adding a smallish forward option in Gwilt makes some sense as adding
further pressure to Geelong's backline.
Gwilt however needs to be very accountable. Especially in keeping the ball in the forward line with tackling pressure as well as a few sausages.

Agree... which means the in will have to be either Miles or Eddy, as Raph and Jim will still be too slow and oversizd for the Geelong smalls...howlinwolf wrote:I'm very happy with our coaching department. It's a proven formula so far

The club most certainly doesn't always know better. They're not 100% perfect and I'm sure if they're honest they wouldn't claim to be. Sometimes "blind Freddy" can see a problem, but the match committee can be too close to the situation, or too stubborn, to make the best move.howlinwolf wrote:

I agree with this in some instances but this year we are 13-0 so logic says they got it right a vast majority of the time.
I believe in the new banner saying ... " ROSS KNOWS "

They may not be 100% perfect but, IMO, they're well in front of any of us on here.AnythingsPossibleSaints wrote:The club most certainly doesn't always know better. You make negative statements without any real knowledge of what discussions have taken place and what plans have been made to put into practice.
How about you explain, in the context of our gameplan against Geelong, why the selection decisions are wrong?
As far as I can see, you're not offering any incisive knowledge on selection decisions, just negative criticism because Goose wasn't selected.

Ahhh question ..... Does Maguire's current form in the VFL warrant selection in the senior team???
whoever is picked this week to replace Maxy (not necessarily take his position) will come down to team balance and can I say the coaching panel have not got it wrong once this season with regards to team selection

Maquire on his VFL form is not a walk up start, he is going okay but not great.
Geelong have two key forwards, we have Dawson, Blake and Fisher plus Gilbert who can play tall we did not need an extra tall this week. What we need is a third forward or some one that can match up on the likes of Varcoe, Byrnes, Chapman and Johnson. We need players with agility and pace.
All of the players listed as ins have agility and a bit of pace or in Eddy's case the ability to shut down a player.
