Actually it's 76 if you count the Saints' two behinds at the end of the first quarter. Could be some kind of record.

The Doggies set a pretty scary precedent in round 10 with 13 unanswered goals against the Swans. It wasn't completely unanswered though with two behinds after the 4th and 10th goals in that run respectively.
Yes I'd lost track of when those early behinds were scored. I got more and more intrigued with the 'unanswered' accumulation as the game wore on, and was especially pissed off when Richmond scored their goal to end it.

InkerSaint, how do you know about these things anyway?

Heres an update on the 14 straight wins.
I had partially posted this in another thread but didn't include Fitzroy

In terms of wins in one season it places us equal 9th on the all-time list.

Most Consecutive wins in a season…
20 - Ess 2000-R1 - 2000-R20
18 - Col 1929-R1 - 1929-R18
16 - Car 1995-R10 - 1995-GF
16 - Bri 2001-R10 - 2001-GF
15 - Col 1903-R5 - 1903-GF
15 - Ess 1981-R7 - 1981-R21
15 - Gee 2007-R6 - 2007-R20
15 - Gee 2008-R10 - 2008-PF
14 - Gee 1937-R7 - 1937-GF
14 - Ess 1950-R7 - 1950-GF
14 - STK 2009-R1 - 2009-R14 and still live

And it puts us equal 14th on the all-time list of consecutive wins (spanning seasons).

Most Consecutive wins …
1 Geelong 23 1952-R12 -1953-R13 *
2 Brisbane 20 2001-R10 - 2002-R4 *
3 Collingwood 20 1928-2SFR (2nd semi replay) - 1929-R18 *
4 Essendon 20 2000-R1 - 2000-R20 #
5 Melbourne 19 1955-R15 - 1956-R13 *
6 Carlton 18 1995-R10 -1996-R2 *
7 Collingwood 17 1903-R5 -1904-R2 *
8 Essendon 16 1949-R12 - 1950-R5 *
9 Essendon 16 1950-R7 - 1951-R2 * (Essendon won 32 out of 33 in these two streaks after losing in 1950-R6)
10 Carlton 15 1907-A2(Round 2 of Section A finals) - 1908-R11 *
11 Essendon 15 1981-R7 - 1981-R21
12 Geelong 15 2007-R6 - 2007-R20 #
13 Geelong 15 2008-R10 - 2008-PF
14 Fitzroy 14 1898-R10 - 1899-R4 *
15 Essendon 14 1911-R11 - 1912-R4 *
16 Geelong 14 1937-R7 - 1937-GF *
17 Collingwood 14 1953-R12 -1954-R5 *
18 StKilda 14 2009-R1 - ??????

* included a Premiership
# sequence did not include a premiership but Premiership was won that year

Interesting to note that 13 of these 18 included a Premiership in the sequence.
Another 2 (Essendon 2000 and Geelong 2007) had the sequence stopped before the GF but still won the Premiership
Another 2 (Essendon in 1981 and Geelong in 2008) failed to win the Premiership in the year of their sequence.
StKilda 2009 is yet to be determined.

Another record equalled this week (R14) was that the win over Geelong was our 16th consecutive win at Docklands since 2008-R13 and also ties our most consecutive wins at any venue.

Our previous record of 16 at Docklands was 2003-R16 to 2004-R22.
Our other run of 16 consecutive wins was at Moorabbin 1965-R7 to 1967-R1.

Obviously a win in R16 against Adelaide will break these records.

To give it perspective the all time record for consecutive wins at a venue is 24 held jointly by
South Melb (Sydney?) at Albert Park 1934-R8 to 1936-R17
and
Richmond at Punt Rd 1932-R11 to 1935-R4

FYI
the biggest sequence of losses at the same venue is
34 by South at Princes Park 1966-R8 to 1987-R20
just shading our run of 33 losses at Victoria Park 1920-R6 to 1961-R9 (a 41 year gap !!!).

Saints-Cats clash sets ratings records
| July 06, 2009 01:08pm

CHANNEL 7 has been rewarded for the decision to show the Cats-Saints game live after registering record ratings yesterday. The Etihad Stadium match – which was moved to 3.10pm to accommodate Channel 7’s schedule broke plenty of records for a Sunday afternoon game.

The marks set include:

• An average audience of 626,000 viewers in Melbourne, making it the highest rating ever Sunday AFL match in Melbourne.

• The match had a Melbourne peak audience of 983,000, making it the highest ever peak audience for a Sunday AFL match in Melbourne.*

• The final quarter of the match averaged 854,000 viewers in Melbourne.

• The average audience of 626,000 viewers in Melbourne makes it the third highest rating AFL match in Melbourne in 2009.

• The peak audience across Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth was 1.433 million viewers.

• An average audience of 155,000 and 151,000 viewers watched the match in Adelaide and Perth respectively.

• An average national audience of 964,000 viewers watched the match on Seven.

However, fans in Sydney and Brisbane have missed out on watching the match live on free-to-air TV due to the sport's broadcast schedule.

What a disgrace! And yet, the AFL continues to establish a second team in these markets and both will be sure fire losers.

I bet the people in Tassie got it live and watched in droves. It will have to go down as one on the greatest acts of bastardry that Tasmania has been denied a team in the AUSTRALIAN Football League.

crazy

while they pat themselves on the back for deciding to show the game live in melb (it was a sell out, or course you were going to show it live) they really need to help out nsw and qld afl fans

Actually in Round 3 against WCE we had 13 unanswered goals which is bigger.

By the way our 10 straight goals in the second quarter in that R3 game is the most number of goals without a point ever by StKilda.
And there are only two instances of clubs bettering that.
Carlton kicked 12.0 Q2 v Ess 1972 R16
Brisbane kicked 11.0 Q3 v Carl 2000 R16
There are 6 other instances of 10.0 in a quarter.

There's something ambiguous about the way you've presented you data here Enrico. By "unanswered" I mean completely unanswered -- no points no nothing.
Has anyone ever kicked 76 poits with no points kicked against them during that time?

Avid,
yes you are right "unanswered goals" can mean points are scored.

Records for totally unanswered scoring?
That is a really good question.
I suspect for the early days of the competition the records will not be detailed enough.
I will do some investigating.

Geelong kicked 162 points against us in 1899 - that's the all time record.

Was that 162 to zero?

That's a bit sad for my 76-points theory.

Yes the record for "Scoring with no reply" is 162 from Geel against StK:1899 B3R (Section B Round 3 finals game) at Corio Oval where after conceding the opening point Geel did not let StK score again whilst they amassed a score of 162.

That game is a blight (to use an offensive word) on our history.
And yes it obliterates the 69 points against Richmond 2 weeks ago.

That game also sets the record for most number of "unanswered" goals of 23. (They kicked 23.24 162 to 0.1 1).

However that record was equalled by South, unfortunately also against StK in another contender for worst game ever.
1919 R12 at Albert Park 29.15 188 to 2.6 18
They kicked 23 unanswered goals to complete the match including 17.4 106 to 0.0 0 in the last quarter which goes down as the best/worst quarter by any side ever.

Interesting to note that our 13 unanswered goals against West Coast in R3 this year (including 10 straight goals) is in equal 13th spot on the unanswered goals table.

We also have other notable entries with
12 against Brisbane 2005 R22 DK
11 against Richmond 2004 R16 DK
and
11 also against Richmond 2009 R13 DK to go from 0.4 4 to 11.7 73 a run of 69 points which is the game referred to in this thread.

Just to keep all this streak stuff in one thread.

Another way to measure a streak is a H&A streak ie exclude finals.
If you use that measure then our 3 wins at the end of last years H&A count.

So we now have the 5th best H&A streak with 18.

Consecutive Home and Away wins (excluding Finals)
27 Essendon 1999-R16 - 2000-R20
26 Geelong 2008-R10 - 2009-R13
21 Collingwood 1929-R1 - 1930-R3
21 Geelong 1952-R12 - 1953-R13
18* St Kilda 2008-R20 - 2009-R15*
17 Brisbane 2001-R10 - 2002-R4
17 Melbourne 1955-R15 - 1956-R13
16 Geelong 1966-R9 - 1967-R6
15 Collingwood 1903-R5 - 1904-R2
15 Essendon 1981-R7 - 1981-R21
15 Carlton 1995-R10 - 1996-R2
15 Geelong 2007-R6 - 2007-R20

And as someone else pointed out our streak is now the 3rd best starting from the start of a season.

Most Consecutive wins from the start of a season…
20 - Ess 2000-R1 - 2000-R20
18 - Col 1929-R1 - 1929-R18
15 - StK 2009-R1 - 2009-R15*

Extending streaks to streaks against individual clubs.

This year we have set 3 new records and are poised to set a 4th.

12 consecutive wins against Carlton 2002 - is our record
11 consecutive wins against Richmond 2003 - is our record
4 consecutive wins against Fremantle 2007 - is our record
3 consecutive wins against Adelaide 2007 - equals our record from 1991-92.
Obviously we can break the Adelaide record this weekend.

R16 records
Only match record is that we have now won 4 in a row against Adelaide which is a new record for us.

Apart from extending our Streak of consec wins to 16.
This means we are now
- equal 3rd for most consecutive wins in a season
- equal 8th for most consecutive wins spanning seasons
- equal 8th for most consecutive H&A wins

To keep all the records together here is the data from another thread showing our lowest score for the season is the "highest lowest"

http://www.saintsational.com/forum/view ... hp?t=54146
Everyone raves about our miserly defence and quite rightly so.

But it is time to give our forwards some credit as well.
Our lowest score this year is 80 points.

To put that into context
1) Stk 80
2) Bulldogs 76 against us
3) Geel 65
4) Sydney 63 (65 against us)
5) Carlton 60
6) Ess 57
7) WCE 56
8) Adel 48 against us
9) Haw 45
10) Coll 40 against us
11) Port 36 against us
12) Rich 36 against us
13) Melb 34
14) Brisb 33
15) North 24
16) Freo 13 (28 against us)

That is a powerful measure of how consistent our forward line has been all season.
The fact that 5 of the other teams lowest scores were against us indicates how well the backline has been going.
In fact how consistent the whole team has been.

And our lowest score in 2009 of 80 points is not much below our average score from the last couple of years.
What a remarkable turnaround at both ends of the ground.

Yes
The win over Adelaide (R16) is our 17th consecutive win at Docklands since 2008-R13.

In fact it is our most number of consecutive wins at ANY venue EVER.

Our previous record of 16 at Docklands was 2003-R16 to 2004-R22.
Our other run of 16 consecutive wins was at Moorabbin 1965-R7 to 1967-R1.

478 disposals is surely a new club record.

I imagine there's a few PB's in there too. Farren Ray 39? Steven Baker 32?

That's right - Steven Baker 32. Is this his best?

Can anyone help out?
