St Kilda in Part 2 of 2009 - Predictions

Post: # 762082Post thequarry »

Yes, 12-0. It's never been done in the club's 136-year history.

But what does Part 2 of Season 2009 hold for the Saints?

Will we tire? Will the week off have given us enough rest to ward off too much physical fatigue for the foreseeable future?

Who will make a name for themselves on the field for us between now and the pointy end of the season (if anyone!)? Who will continue to do so?

What do we need? What don't we need?

Where will St Kilda be after Round 22 (and beyond)?...
Will it be our third minor premiership? Or 2004 ver2.0?

What do you think?

20-2 and second on the ladder after 22 rounds.

Losses to Geelong and the Western Bulldogs.

First final against the Bulldogs at the MCG.

Nick Riewoldt to finish 2nd in the Coleman Medal.

Michael Gardiner, Brendon Goddard and Adam Schneider to have big second halves of the year.

So who wins the GF?

Hmmm...

I had Port in the final eight, so I certainly admit I was very wrong as far as that goes. Most will perhaps choose between Carlton and Essendon to make up the last position in the eight, I predict both to make it now with Adelaide to fall outside (tough run home)

James Gwilt will return into the side, and show he is surely in our best 22 and put together some dominant peformances. Farren Ray will put in an amazing game against the dogs in our finals campaign, and practically win the game for us.

And finally, and most importantly, I think we will remain at the top of the ladder and win the big one!

All unimportant. Saints win flag, now that matters.

I think we'll drop two but still finish first because Geelong will drop a couple as well but our percentage will keep us up top.

Dogs to beat Cats in first final. They are due, the Dogs.

Saints beat Collingwood in first final pretty easily.

Saints to take on Cats in a prelim and avenge the 24 point loss in Rd 14.

I'm not convinced Geelong have hit half way as comprehensively as some would say. They were decidedly average (although away) against Freo and West Coast, and squeezed in a decent effort against an overawed Essendon after the Dogs gave them a helluva kick up the ar se.

I would argue our form has been more consistent and more workmanlike.

The West Coast, Freo and Dogs games show what a bold, spirited and 'whole 22' approach can do. It is more likely that the desperation of the final few rounds will bring these qualities out in a lot of there or thereabouts sides and I think the Cats will flounder (in a relative sense).

That's what I reckon anyway.

History often shows that sides that build themselves up for big big games come out flat the following weeks. I'd be surprised if both us and Geelong don't drop a few games after the clash. Of course injuries also flatten teams, so we'll have to see what happens.

That's why they say "one match at a time"

Personally I don't care (much) how many we lose the remainder of the year as lond as we win the GF.

Even New South Welshmen love the Saints !
