Lets get to the Grandfinal ...and then win the bloody thing before this subject is even thought about again this year

He is a rookie so it doesnt matter about them but you must delist at least 3 players every year. Still far to early to tell.sainter2631 wrote:i'd throw brad howard onto that list as a candidate for delisting. has played a total of 2 games and doesnt look like he'll get a spot in the side anytime soon.

Some talent there for a change

"I was pretty groggy, but Rossy pretty much said to me he would like to have me at the club next year, and as long as he's there he would do pretty much anything he can to keep me at the club," Clarke told Superfooty program Front and Square.
Yeah nah pleasing positive
why? does winning the grand final mean you don't have to delist anyone? i don't think so. so why not discuss it? you better believe the coaches are.saint66au wrote:Look..free speech and all that..but IMHO its a totally stupid and pointless excercise raisng this while we are on top of the ladder and planning to go deep into September. Total waste of bandwidth
i reckon it's from these:
hudghton: will almost certainly retire this year - more so because zac's popped up.
king: will retire if we win the grand final, and probably won't otherwise.
x clarke: could go - it wouldn't be the first time the coach changed his mind (attard).
l fisher: surely. i thought he'd be gone last year.
maguire: outside chance of a trade, because we have a surfeit of talls, but otherwise safe.
r clarke: very rough chance of a trade, otherwise safe.
begley: safe for another year unless he's really showing nothing in the twos.
allen: would want to play a couple of games by the end of the year to make sure he's safe.
connors: injury unlucky, but still at sandy reserves after a year and a half, so may be in trouble.
cahill: hasn't yet played a game for sandy seniors, so not in the best spot.

King has indicated he wants to play on regardless. Provided his body holds up, I'd expect him back next year. I wouldn't assume Hudghton's out either. As long as he's playing at a high level there's always the possibility he might play on. I don't think Ross is into pushing quality veterans out.bergholt wrote:king: will retire if we win the grand final, and probably won't otherwise.
If we drop a younger player (Allen, Cahill, Connors), I'd expect we'd try and get them onto the rookie list.

Actually Id be pretty surprised if the coaching panel had even raised the topic. I'm sure they have at North, Richmond and the Dees, but Id like to think we have nore pressing issues to worry about.you better believe the coaches are.
It would be a major major shock if Jarryd Allen played senior footy in 2009. I reckon barirng a lot of injuries Dempster will be lucky to play the last few games of the season..and he;'sa bloody sight further on with rehab than Allen is.

players are still signing contracts. the football manager can't know who to re-sign if the coaching staff don't tell him which players they see as having a future. otherwise you end up re-signing brad howard for three years - oh, wait...saint66au wrote:Actually Id be pretty surprised if the coaching panel had even raised the topic. yeah, sorry, i meant a couple of sandy games, just to remind the club that he's still a player.saint66au wrote:It would be a major major shock if Jarryd Allen played senior footy in 2009. they are on two year contracts, yes. but that doesn't mean you can't delist them, just that you have to pay out the second year of the contract if you do.saint66au wrote:Arent all new draftees on 2 year contracts? Not allowed to delist them after only one season?cahill: hasn't yet played a game for sandy seniors, so not in the best spot.
considering he was a fifth round pick, he'll only be on the minimum contract, which is maybe $40k? so not a huge imposition for the club if they do want to get rid of him.

king will stay
x will stay
baker will stay (unless he retires)
max will go on for one more unless we win the flag then he will retire.
with max i reckon its not whether he has the skill and can the body hold up (i actually reckon it can, even with the calf and hammie probs of the past)..its whether he can get himself up for another year of pre season, training and 20+ games for the year.......as thats gotta talk a toll after the length of time he has been around.
imo

Re: which players will be delisted end of year
If there is a desire to trade Armitage then we should wait until the Gold Coast team comes on board. He is just the type they would want - young, highly rated and unable to crack it into a senior side. Being a Queensland boy would make them all the more keen to get him and we could benefit greatly out of a trade.reincarnated wrote:why trading armitage?JABBER wrote:L fisher,D Armitage (traded), M Maguire and Max if he retires and baker retires

That said, I'd rather keep him.
