Umpiring today
I thought the umpiring was of exception quality today, especially in the first two quarters. Exceptionally BAD.

The 50m penalty against Lenny was inconsistent.
The guy had had taken two steps off his line so Lenny was right to advance.
And in the second a Kosi was pole-axed trying to take a mark just outside of the square by a defender with no eyes for the ball running with the flight straight at Kosi - Play On
And there was that riduculous one on the 3/4 time siren in front of the Moorabbin wing that had everyone on their feet.
etc.

Agree...inconsistant as hell...and contained the worst umpiring decision Ive seen in any game this year..
Farren Ray, tracking the ball to the boundary with a North opponent hot in pursuit right in front of the MW.. Farren played it beautifully, didnt take posession until the last second as he knew he'd get tackled. About 3 feet from the line he grabs the ball, is immedialtely slammed over the line by said opponent.. whistle..throw in?? Oh maybe even a free to Farren for a push..but no...HOLDING THE BALL!!!
Apparently running in pursuit of a ball is deemed having prior opportunity?? ...did I miss the press release??

Yep worst umpiring this season no doubt. Very inconsistant all day. But agree with earlier post about the Carlton Lions game. I get as much enjoyment at seeing Carlton lose as I do seeing the saints win but boy the umpiring up there was just awful. What is it with the lion supporters, they were so quiet in that last quater when there were so many missed free kicks for the Loins. Crowd in SA or WA would not let the umps off that easy.

umpiring today
umpires can only play what they see lenny was a 50m for holding the player up after a mark you have to wait on the umpire to call play on in todays game there was a lot of off the ball blocking

Re: umpiring today
or common sense is you either call it play on or bring the guy back over his mark.....JABBER wrote:umpires can only play what they see lenny was a 50m for holding the player up after a mark you have to wait on the umpire to call play on in todays game there was a lot of off the ball blocking

I saw that on replay a few times and I actually agreed with the umpire. It was a strict interpretation of the rule, but I thought it was correct. Ray's mistake was taking possession of the footy. If he'd just finessed it over the line it would have been a simple throw-in. But he took possession and then just dropped it as he was tackled over the line. Made no attempt to get rid of it legitimately. Fair call IMO.saint66au wrote:Agree...inconsistant as hell...and contained the worst umpiring decision Ive seen in any game this year..

The umpires tried hard for North Melbourne for three quarters but the overwhelming talent of St Kilda was just too much for them.
Eventually they gave up and tried to even up the free kick count.
North Melbourne began the match with 25 fit players and finished with 20.
