Post: # 750720Post True Blue Sainter »

What would it look like? Borrowed this thread from Bigfooty - here is the team I posted:

B: Baker Hudghton A Jones
HB: Goddard S Fisher Gram
C: Dal Santo Hayes Montagna
HF: Hamill Riewoldt Ball
F: Loewe Gehrig Milne
R: Everitt Harvey Burke

INT: Koschitzke Powell Voss Thompson
EMERG: Hall Black Schneider Goose Blake

Thoughts? What changes would you make?

**forgot Luke Ball

The decade has a year and half to go. A lot can happen in that time ( I hope). Too early to call yet.

Not sure you can include Hall as he really only played one year of that decade.

To be honest, I think Ball gets a go ahead of Peckett.

IMO, Frankie played his best footy in the mid-to-late 90s. Perhaps he could take Baker's place?

Hmm... not sure.

Also if we want to get technical what about Nathan Burke's place in that side?

Undoubtedly in our team of the 1990's and team of the century, and an absolute champion, but he was very good in 2000, missed most of 2001 and 2002 with injuries, then lost a bit of form and retired in 03.

Did he do enough in the decade 2000-2009 to be ahead of Peckett, Ball etc.

Bit harsh putting him with the others. I squeezed him into my actual team. Thought he was a good honest player that every side needs.

Schwartz was stiff. 100% they have all played since 2000!

Nice effort. Missing a few, however.

Robbie Powell.
Josh Dicketts
Mark Wittison

Walton actually did some handy things, I recall him kicking 4 goals in a game at Geelong to seal a win for us (including 2 in the last). From memory, Buddha Hocking cleaned up Banger that day.

And I always liked Murray, thought he wasn't given a fair go after his first few games.

Burke, Hayes, Baker, Thompson. All hardnut midfielders whose careers I rate ahead of Ball by varying margins.

Bally fell just short. At his best he'll earn a spot, which I expect him to have done by the end of next year, but the years spent playing with injuries meant he hasn't earnt it yet in my book.

It was between him, Thompson and Powell for the last bench spot. A tough call, but I was always a fan of Thompson, and longevity won out.

Changes I could make at the end of next year:

In: Gardiner, Ball, Montagna, Gilbert
Out: Everitt (yay), Thompson, Peckett, Voss/Maguire

If you are serious you couldnt get rid of Spider for Gardiner. Yes Gardiner has done well but Spider was a very good player and could play forward as well. MG cannot do that.

Powell's already an emergency, and I suspect Montagna will take Peckett's place on the wing. It'll pain me to drop Thommo, but at the end of the day I suspect Ball will be a better footballer.

Spider was a very good player, but the main reason I gave him the gig was lack of competition. He left us three years into the 2000s, and I factor in baggage and loyalty. I'll happily replace him with Gardiner or King if they perform.

When did Timmy Elliot retire? Must have been late 90s 'cause he would have been a definite if he'd been playing in 2000!!
