I felt sick when Demetriou stated On the Couch that if we lost Roo we'd be able to get a 2nd round pick.

We will still lose 1 player to the GC... who will it be?

tHIS IS GREAT NEWS, get lost gold coast

Dow we have to still give up a player, is that compulsory for every club
I think it is... will check the AFL site. It may be 'every club can lose a maximum of 1 player that they will be compensated for.
"Under an agreement with the League, the Gold Coast is allowed to sign one out-of-contract player from each of the existing clubs from the end of 2010"

This sounds like one player from each club will be on the move.
The club dont have to lose anyone. If they get a player who wants to leave and is uncontracted we must let him go but we dont have to offer them anyone.

It says that Gold Coast is allowed to sign one out of contract player from each club. It doesn't say they have to...

They won't admit it but everyone on this forum would be jealous of that.

Brilliant news, I know I have some mates who were hoping we'd lose Roo to the GC but now I guess the GC can go full steam ahead and target players from their clubs, Carlton, Hawthorn and Geelong.

I hope my mates sweat bullets over the next 18 months!!!

Updated article here. Some good quotes from Nick.

Riewoldt a Saint until end of 2013

Great news. Will ensure that we will get a few more boys to sign on the dotted line in the next 4 years. I'd be happy to play alongside him. May even tempt some traitors from other clubs to join us. :D
Here's to Nick holding up the premiership cup (even once would be nice) ... can picture it now.

I just listened to the audio, I love that he highlighted that he wants to stand for something. I am very proud of our coach, captain and team.

Great news - the signing, the negotiations out of the media - maybe at last the Club is starting to be managed professionally. Well done St Kilda management.

We'll that's well and truly made my day! What awesome news!

Riewoldt is a man of real character and our football club is very fortunate to have him leading out side onto the ground each week.

Geez you're brave...

In fairness, in listening to RL speak, the same conclusion could be drawn re RL's influence. Team-centricity, benefits of a tight-knit group, importance of leaders...etc etc...

Althoug old age is catching up with me, Thomas was a 3 club player. I'd prefer to think it had more to do with Loewe, Burke and Harvey's influence.

With a bit of luck, his signing also means that the rest of our "core" will follow suit.

Go Saints.

Very happy

BUT

I just hope we haven't paid him too much.
And wind up not having enough to hold on to our current playing list.

You need depth as well as stars to win flags.
