Best and worst brothers

Post: # 741704Post Batnoe »

I know there has been a lot of brothers that have made it to the big time together

there has also been a lot of sons to play as good as their dads

I am just wondering what was the worst set of brothers to play AFL- biggest gap between

We had Robert Harvey- and his brother Tony?
Brent Harvey and his brother
Luke Ball- and Matt Ball
Will Minson- Hugh Minson
Chris Tarrant - Robbie Tarrant (yet to play)
Gary Ablett- Nathan Ablett

are there any other brothers that didnt live up to their older brothers expectations

Hamish Hartlett (Port) is already better than his older brother from Carlton
Whilst still good, Brett Voss was no Michael...

I know there are others, but am struggling to remember...

Campbell Brown and Glen Campbell - Glen was crap

Nathan Buckley and Nicki Buckley - while she did do some decent things on sale of the century she never really hit the same heights

Brad Howard and John Howard - John's eyebrows interfered with his overhead marking

Nathan Thompson and Jack Thompson - Jack trained with the kangaroos for a while before going on to a reasonably successful acting

Leon Davis and Gena Davis - separated at birth, Gena made her mark as a tough insider but failed in the draft due to a dodgy knee. Always considered the stronger of the two.

Bob Pascoe was no Barry and there was a bit of distance between the Cunninghams.

Also coached Collingwood in 1980 with their big star recruit John Howard ( not the ex Prime Minister) before he was sacked by the board of Frank Wilson and Graham Kennedy.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the Nathan Brown triplets.

Also the worst brothers would have to be either the Morans, Blues or Grimm's.

Lance or James??

There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

Best sets

Cornes
Burgoynes
Selwoods (4)
Houlihans (to an extent, there were 4 that made it onto lists)
Febeys
Jacovichs
Clarkes
Davey's

Generally speaking if your brother is good you should be good too

What about those brothers at Footscray, I think.

The one that are the subject of that terrible innuendo.

Garry and Allan Sidebottom

Now I'm just naming brothers. This is getting silly.

Tim Watson and Larry Watson
Leigh Mathews and Kelvin Mathews

Showing my age a bit.

"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."

Bill & Laurie Stephenson talking about showing ones age!
Laurie went OK but wasn't in the class or size range of Big Bill
Hands as big as dinner plates (took big one- grabs like Stewie Lowe) and I think he had 8 goals to half time when he went down with a knee at Junction Oval never to play again
Cartilage but in those days there was no recos and once you did your knee you were history
(John McIntosh dad of Ashley was another Saint Gem cut down in his prime with a knee)

That's got to be the winner, doesn't it? Poor Geoff (an ex-Saint too!), Gary was a universe away from him.
