I feel for the X Man. I know it is probably a fait accompli however i guess i am thinking there is the very small glimmer of hope that it is not a full reco that is required..

St Kilda's Xavier Clarke in action
ST KILDA football manager Greg Hutchison says the club is hopeful that Xavier Clarke can return to football by round one next season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in the VFL on Saturday.
Clarke will undergo a knee reconstruction at the Mercy Hospital on Wednesday and Hutchison says the club is hopeful of a full recovery.
"Given the time of the year, you'd think he would be almost available for round one next year," Hutchison said.
Hutchison refused to say if the injury was potentially career-threatening

ACL recovery has been cut from 12 months to about 8 nowdays which means X will be ready for a full preseason and Round 1 next year.
If all goes well of course.
Career threatening is a bit of an overstatement one would think.

ACL op ends Clarke's season May 6th, 2009
ST Kilda and former St Marys utility Xavier Clarke enters hospital today for surgery on his damaged left knee.
Clarke damaged the anterior cruciate ligament playing for VFL club Sandringham on Saturday when a would-be tackler fell on his leg.
The injury means his 2009 season is over just as it got started.
"It's unfortunate and pretty disappointing when you see how St Kilda is going this season," Clarke said.
"My contract runs out this year but I've been holding some pretty good conversations with the coach (Ross Lyon) so I reckon I'll be around in 2010." ( well I'm pleased even if others aren't)
The 25-year-old 2001 draftee has struggled with soft tissue injuries since his debut against Port Adelaide in 2002.
Chronic hamstring, groin and hip complaints have robbed him of at least 50 games with the Saints.
The death of his father Xavier Sr late last year and a disrupted pre-season before the knee injury, have made it a tough 2009 for the silken skilled defender who can play up forward.
But he was still able to find some positives when contacted yesterday.
"Even though I'm done for the rest of this year it means I'll get a full pre-season done before next year," he said.
"It's been a tough 12 months on and off the field with dad passing away and the injuries, but I'm looking forward now rather than back.
"The good news with the knee injury is that there is no other ligament damage or tissue damage in the region."
Clarke's 109 games have all included the pacy breakaways and strong overhead marking that had him earmarked for an AFL career at an early age.

More in reference to the perception he is already at the crossroads, so missing a season means others may pass him and the club may ultimately run out of patience.joffaboy wrote:ACL recovery has been cut from 12 months to about 8 nowdays which means X will be ready for a full preseason and Round 1 next year.

He has the ability to make it (I know that's been said for a while). I think in top flight he makes us a better side, hope we get to see that in 2010.
X is a St Pauls Primary kid like my own two young'uns and so I have felt a great pride in watching him (and Raph) roll out for the Saints. Like others, I feel that he adds to our team in intangible ways as well as in more directly obvious ways. I reckon this is one reason why Ross is keen to give him a chance. Dont' forget, Nathan Burke didn't give X his number lightly. Most thought it would be given to Ball.

Some news on the X front today.

Injured ruckman Steven King was a chance to return to the St Kilda line-up but Xavier Clarke will have to wait until 2010 to add to his 105 AFL games after undergoing a knee reconstruction on Wednesday.
Dal Santo, who was drafted to St Kilda in 2001 – the same year as Clarke – said he was shattered at the news Clarke had ruptured his ACL for St Kilda’s VFL team Sandringham last week.
"It is devastating for X. He has had a really good pre-season. He got a few games under his belt in the seconds and he had the ACL on the weekend," Dal Santo said.
"He had his operation yesterday and apparently it went really well. We need to support him. It is a hard situation no matter who you are. He has had a lot of injuries and it is just devastating."

Didn't Dempster do a ligament (ACL?) 8 months ago.
Seems it takes more than 8 months, maybe 10 months at least.
Didn't someone Australian sportperson get operated on in France.
Instead of taking the necessary stringy tissue from elsewhere in the leg they used man made material resulting in only a few months out of action.
X could do with having his hammys replaced with carbon fibre screwed into place - never tear again.
reckon they might delist him and draft him again ala Callaghan... would be a risky move though
By saying they hope to have him ready for round 1 next year they are implying
1. He is a required player
2. Will be offered a new contract for next year, maybe with a big cut in pay until he reproves himself.

Dal Santo 150 games
Ball 128 games
X Clarke 105 games
Montagna 104 games but took time to establish himself.
Maguire 99 games
All taken in the same draft with X to miss the next 19 matches and premiership.
Roughly
Ball has lost 1 season,
Maguire lost 2 1/2 seasons ,
X Clarke lost 3 seasons.

ACL usually 9 to 12months on the average these days and it depends on which op you have,. I think these days there is 3 or 4 choices and one of them is from parts from a cadaver another is part from you good knee another is to use a part of your hammy to reconstruct the ACL. You can start working on getting the knee more mobile after about 10weeks.ace wrote:Didn't Dempster do a ligament (ACL?) 8 months ago.joffaboy wrote:ACL recovery has been cut from 12 months to about 8 nowdays which means X will be ready for a full preseason and Round 1 next year.

if they need to make room for 3 new players minimum, u would think that they'd pbly need to get rid of 3 + whatever rookies may be promoted
Max may retire
who's next???
