he's done so well to get back into the team

i'd have bet anything that he wouldn't have been able to force his way back into the team after losing the pace and the soft tissue injuries

he has been an absolute superstar though

He's one of the best defensive players in the comp. Every coach he's had has said he's a coach's dream - prepared to take on any task given to him.
I remember a Hawks supporter questioning me when he won the B&F. I told him that Bakes takes the best midfielder or best small forward every week and hardly ever gets beaten. I'm sure it wasn't a surprise to the coaching staff or his team mates.

He is our heart and soul.
You only realise how much we miss him when he is back.

Tough as nails.. Busts his guts 'til he chucks; and then keeps going.
Our boys stand taller when he's in the side; as exemplified by our efforts in the 1st two round.

I wonder if he plays the same role hamill did for the team. That is to say, do you think that he is a leader in that the team looks to him for inspiration? I'm not sure if hes a big enough presence in a protector sort of way like hamill was. Nevertheless, seeing him come back and play beautifully has been one of the highlights of this year (although its early).
