Bakes!

Post: # 718280Post Sainterman »

Hasn't he just been great in the first couple of weeks! Sets the tone with his aggression, tackling, and general hustle out there. Having been out for a long time through injury, and that very questionable suspension, I think many had forgotten how important this guy can be to the side.

He is great and nullifying when required but also uses the ball very well most of the time. I am not sure if there has been a thread somewhere on here already, but I just think he has been great to have back!

great to see him having a chuck in 3rd quarter..and Buckley saying "He won't be putting his hand up to come off". He really adds bite.

What i like is that we can use him more as weapon now because Jones and

Mini can take the first tagging roles (kudos to Jones also, he took out

McVeigh last week and McCloud out this week.Any Mc's in next weeks side?)

I had forgotten how damaging Bakes can be going the other way!

was around the same time Buck's said something to the affect of " the soul' or a spiritual leader at the club..
don't know if it's this or that when he's out there the team know there is a back stop behind them...

I heard one of the commentators say in regards to Baker, you don't know what you got until it's gone.

Gotta love having Bakes in the side, he's about the only guy on our list with that bit of mongrel in him.

It was interesting to see Bakes being vocal during the 'defence' meeting shown during the game as part of Ch 7's special

I noticed that too. Good to see him sharing his knowledge. He is a tremendous asset for our defence.

As I said in another post, he is just a real old school footy player. He still has some personality in an era when everyone seems be a footy robot.

He makes the whole place look like more fun.

Him and Milney are the guys who make teams, they bond the guys together.

One of my favourite players.

Would love to see him back as #1 tagger in the game :)

I was also impressed with the maturity of his interview with Tim post game..
given his 'larrikin' persona, he showed a good ability to speak of what the team had done and how... I don't mean he doesn'sst understand it but he was able to express it well -- when many would assume he would do it in a joking fashion.

Totally agree. However would be in my top 5 in terms of importance and value to the team. It's not always the big forwards and high possesion players that are your most valuable.

Might be a big call but he is to St Kilda what Glenn Archer was to North. As Bucks said he's our spiritual leader!

Guys like Bakes win you premierships- he would go in hard with out thinking about it and makes the young guys walk taller when he's around.

He backs up any one of his team mates even when he should be thinking about his tribunal record.

He hates losing a contest and wont allow an opponent to get an easy possession.

Yep, love him. I haven't got the stats at hand, but I'm pretty sure he had the best disposal efficiency in the team from 04-07. He made some uncharacteristic errors against Adelaide (but wasn't on his Pat Malone there...) but against Sydney had efficiency of 88% which is more what we're accustomed to from him.

...and, not only does he display toughness and determination, he also has a high level of skill, something he rarely gets credit for. He rarely makes an error and is good at choosing the best available option.
