Luke Penny, whilst servicable, was a bit fragile IMHO. Seemed to lack the ticker. Zac is faster and appears to be more agressive from what I've seen.plugger66 wrote:So now after one game Zac Dawson is better than Luke Penny. Maybe right... maybe wrong... time will tell.

I cant see anybody saying he was better than Luke Penny. He is faster as stinger said. More aggression? Dont know.
I do know i was very dissapointed when Penny couldn't get he knee right and retired.
I do know that Zac Dawson played well on Saturday night.
Any other comparision is moot.
Lance or James??

Was a Penny worth more than a Zack?Solar wrote:someone said he REMINDED them of pennyplugger66 wrote:So now after one game Zac Dawson is better than Luke Penny. I hope he gets near Luke's standard but after one game we may be going a little early which I know is not usual for people on here.

no ...a zac was worth six pennies......but our zac might at least be worth more than one penny.......

Big Zac turned Hall into a fur burger,
Hawthorn's loss, our gain
Penny was overrated IMHO, should never have drafted him and given up pick 19 to begin with!

Yes, a bit. Like Penny, he at least took an overhead contested mark (one more than the player he replaced would have taken) and his punching was to the boundary not down the ground (ditto). His kicking was strong and accurate, not a common feature of his games that I saw him play at Hawthorn, but so far so good. Luke Penny could kick both feet, so Zac has some work to do there. His overall size and confidence was a surprise to me - a real plus last Saturday, but four or five games will give us a better idea.Mr Magic wrote:Did he remind anybody last night of Luke Penny?

Ah, Saintsational.
We've got people comparing Dawson to Penny after one game, and I couldn't say whether those making the comparison are pumping him up or insulting him.
I seriously rated Penny. Huge loss. The Penny/Maguire/Baker group was a very big part of why we gave up so few goals while playing an offense first style - Hudghton was the support act (my fav. Saint, but spade a spade, that's what he was then. Always been a stopper, and he was #2 at the time). While I'd imagine we'd have found a way to include Fisher (not sure how, his first games down back he gave up bags of 3s and 4s to some pretty ordinary forwards, but one way of another, that kind of class rises to the top) if they'd all stayed healthy, Penny's knees cost the Saints what should have been his prime years... while behind Hammill and Jones in the "what could have been stakes", it's in the same way that Hudghton is behind Reiwoldt and Fisher in the what is stakes.
I'll be happy if Zac Dawson can provide a serviceable option in Hudghton's absense. Should he prove a bona fide fullback from the rookie list, I'll be rapt. Should he be the re-incarnation of Luke Penny, the Saints defense has solved it's biggest question mark over the next 5-8 years (where to after Max?) and will remain a very tough back 6 regardless of other question marks (i.e Maguire & Baker).

No I'm pretty sure it wasn't Boofhead, not broad enough across the shoulders. I thought it was Kieren Jack.stinger wrote:InkerSaint wrote:Did you see that Sydney midfielder storming up the corridor in the 3rd, only to have Zac shirtfront him and drop him like a sack of spuds?
