Nine players who wouldn't get a game for Geelong, Hawthorn, Bulldogs, Collingwood, Carlton, Port Adelaide and probably one or two other side...

This is the most workman like team I've seen St Kilda put out there in a VERY long time... I'm not confident at all...

dawson would get a game with the dorks this weekend......

King would get a game with Geelong at the moment.

Baker would get a game with Geelong and Hawks at the moment.

I thought McQualter was fantastic in the praccy match against the Dogs and I am told by someone who knows all the players - talks to them regularly - that he has (finally IMO) got his head screwed on properly.

And Allen, Mc Evoy... Armo...

You should be happy now that Zac is playing for us.

Ray is experienced.

What is this obsession with kids... especially when they are obviously not pushing for selection?

It's round one verybody, which means 21 rounds to go after that... let's worry about the kids if and when the current seniors don't perform.

The lid is off after Round 2! Enjoy the journey, coz you just don't know where we'll end up. Live for today and seize the moment.

Pretty sure Howard and Jones also were given an opportunity under RL?

And
Armitage, Attard. Geary, McEvoy, Eddy and Allen

as well as traded for players

Birss, CLarke, Gardiner, C Gardiner, King, Dempster, Schneider, Ray and Dawson

That makes 17 'new players' in the last 2 seasons (and I've probably forgotten some others - Sweeney, did he get a game?)

Sweeny got at least 1 game IIRC. Hawks 2007? first time we played them? We had about 23 players to choose from from memory.

Didn't Sweeney and Howard (and one other?) play in the MCG match against Hawthorn when we had Brooks and Gehrig deep in attack but could not get the ball in that far because of Hawthorn's rolling pack of 8 players?

I think I recall our only score in the first quarter was a "long bomb" from outside 50 by Fiora.

The score was something like 4 goals to 3 at 3/4 time, but there was more scoring in the last with Hawthorn winning by a 3 or 4.

And I am pretty sure it was during Lyon's time.

We only had 23 to pick from, with Raymond missing out and I found it strange Hawthorn adopted such tactics against such a weakened side - then they won a premiership because of those tactics!

As I said 2006 under GT. You pretty much answered it when you mentioned Raymond as he never played under RL.

According to Wikipaedia, he debuted against Hawthorn in May 2007.
That would make him a RL player.

Yes I'm backing the coach and selection panel at this stage.

Let's see where we sit this time tomorrow night...

Tom Lynch > James Gwilt.......even though the kid hasn't played a game yet (that's how poor I think Gwilt is).

Put it this way, if Gwilt was de-listed tommorrow, I don't think there would be many clubs interested in picking him up, yet, he seems to get regular games for us. I'm not sure what the obsession is? Surely, he cannot continue to be picked based on the performance in ONE final, all those years ago.

Lynch is NOT ahead of Gwilt. He's a kid still yet to do anything.

Gwilt is in our 20-30 rank of seasoned players, still with some improvement to come; he's still pretty young. Not our best, but can play either end, is a big hard body who puts his head over the ball, and is one of our better kicks. Still has some upside.

If every player was available for selection I'm not sure he'd get a game, but he'd certainly be considered. Tom lynch, perhaps not yet.

Kids usually need development time. Not that many make immediate impact.

The closest Raymond got to getting a game at AFL level was that week against Hawthorn, when he was the only fit player not chosen.

Came from private school footy in Adelaide and had skills.

Now at Port Melbourne I believe.
