His position as a director isn't a concern in my opinion.
A number of AFL CEO's have sat on club board's in the past, and they will continue to do so in the future. Peter Jackson being a very good example, and he is the second best AFL CEO in the business (behind Brian Cook).
Nettlefold's relationship with the current board is a very professional one, and does not extend to the sort of personal, egotistical relationship that existed between Mr Butterss and Mr Thomas.
Furthermore, he is well regarded as a great operator in business - not just because of his family, but in his own right as well. He is quite polished and articulate, and well educated in the financial aspects of running a company.
Add to that his football experience, and he has a resume that exceeds many current AFL CEO's.
If his performance requires discussion at board level, he will simply be asked to leave the room ... fairly simple I would have thought?
Finally, Archie Fraser gave a strong recommendation in Nettlefold's favour ... Archie, whatever you like to save about him, is not a man to make rash/ego-driven decisions, so his support for the appointment is important IMO.
Congratulations Mr Nettlefold ... may you have every success!
