St.Kilda to grasp Nettlefold

Post: # 705194Post kosifantutti23 »

The headline is on the age sports page but the link doesn't work.

Is he the new CEO?

http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/news/s ... 23603.html

Working now
ST KILDA director Michael Nettlefold has emerged as a near-certainty to replace Archie Fraser as chief executive of the Saints.

Interesting if Archie backed him, that gives me a lot of confidence.

Certainly has the business experience and an understanding of football.

A few connections at City Hall through his Father in Law could also be of benefit !!

it seems like his resume is a good fit, obviously being a st kilda fan already helps with a seemless transition

good family will help, being within the afl heirarchy will also help as we (as supporters mostly see ourselves as having a poor relationship with the afl)

good businessman...

deal

people on here will criticize him no doubt...but then again they are the failures who have hard-on's over changing and moulding the club into something that resembles a parent to child relationship

Herald Sun seem to think Matt Hansen is a shoe-in for the role in their "confidential' section.

Hansen was pinched from the club by one of the old Board members Ray King and given a job with another company King was also a director in, Ray King was tied up with Casey at Nylex where he was made Chairman of Nylex by Casey who was CEO, Casey and Butters were partners in business.......
Wesernway would know that and the links with Butters, Casey and King that Hansen has.......not a chance in hell of getting a foot back inside Moorabbin, Frankston or the moon if we moved there......

Nettelfold is in and a good Saints man with a business background, smooth changeover this close to the season beging is the only way to go and the best option by far...... :)
Give him the job and let us concentrate on the footy.... :)

It may well be that Nettlefold steps in on an interim basis whilst the Club conducts a nationwide search for a permanent replacement.

That would then allow Nettlefold to take over from Westaway as Chairman when they deceide it is the right time (if that is the plan?).

I would think that Nettlefold would not be interested in this role (CEO) on a permanent basis - I thought I read somewhere that he was looking to step back from running his own business?
My best guess is that he would only be doing the Club a favour by handling it on a temporary basis whilst we find the next permanent CEO.

Interim CEO,A nice little earner for Nettlefold whilst he decides what he wants to do as he steps back from his other business interests...

I hope he's dedicated when he takes on his interim little earner....

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Will he be able to answer all the question for Westaway at next years AGM ?

A business owner and entreupreneur doesn't normally make a good CEO, so I would be a little conerned about Nettlefold from that perspective.

A CEO should have:
- Good communication skills, especially with fellow staff members and shareholders (us)
- Good conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Strong understanding of financial fundamentals of business
- Good media performer
- Be across all facets/departments of an organisation
- Involvement/experience in the organisation's core business area (sport)

It's the #1 most important off-field job at the club, far more important than a President or any board member.

Nettlefold seems to be, from past history, an entrepreneur but the question must be asked whether he has the necessary skills and committment to the role long-term?

There's no point having a stop-gap ... we have 2 months where Archie is staying on until we find someone.

We need a strong and capable operator who will be with us for at least 5 years.

Extremely important decision.

I am not sure that the "job for the boys" policy has served us well in the past.

<smile> yes & the Saints have seen a few.
But in our board we trust, good luck to him, the job description would include attributes such as "thick skinned" and "hiding to nothing"

FFS Nettlefold has been very successful, has amazing contacts and resources and our Board have brought him on board because they know and respect it. Is it really a job for the boys bringing across some-one you know who you think is the best qualified?

Nettlefold doesn't need the money. I am amazed he would consider a CEO job at the Saints. Personally I think he is at a higher level.

"Job for the boys" - if you were as wealthy and successful as Nettlefold why would you even consider it?

The skill set of the entreupreneur who makes it and the professional CEO is very similar .... with the major exception the entreupreneur does not need to leverage off some-one else's business.

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say we could do a lot worse than Nettlefold.

The bloke is a straight shooter but doesn't have an abrasive love-me-or-f***-you manner. I like the cut of his jib.

Eloquent, smart and succesful. Knows footy, understands the club, seems to have the personality (that - I know I shouldn't say this - Westaway lacks) to be a leader.

Maybe I'm wrong, but on an interim basis, I see no reason why we couldn't put him on.

Surprised Legendary has questioned it which, I have to say, is making me think a little bit...Obviously RBnW has given it his blessing

would be amazing to get this guy. knows the club and all the board, exec, coaches..AND all the challenges we face, which is a huge bonus . If we don't grab him, and instead, we get someone (else) new , we lose momentum while the new guy gets to know everything for the next 6 months.
No risk AFAIAC. Top quality candidate .

And so it's a done deal.

Seems well suited to the position and has uniform backing from the board.

Let's see how he goes. I've got faith he can do the job on an interim basis - and I hope he exceeds all expectations and can then be made permanent.

It would be great for this club to have a top class CEO again.
