Shouldn't we poach someone? Just as Archie was from us?evertonfc wrote:Someone who had the same vision and understanding about football - and football clubs - as Brian Waldron would do me.
Are there any Brian Cook-types left out there?
We need one rather desperately, especially given our transitional phase.
Do we even have the resources to entice?

Re: CEO candidates?
Is this because one of this number may not be able to find his way to the correct office? !!saintbrat wrote:not taking into account a double act of Stinger /B4E
Getting the best, not the best available, was how Greg Swann came to leave Collingwood for Carlton so it can be done.evertonfc wrote:I don't know. I hope we do.tweedaletomanning wrote:Shouldn't we poach someone? Just as Archie was from us?

As someone else said, we need to the get the best - not the best available.
Aside from Brian Cook and Swann, are there any other AFL club CEO's who stand out as being "good operators" and worth having a look at?

Stinger pointed out that on Big Footy it is rumoured that Matt Hansen is a favourite. Is currently CFO or COO at Melbourne Storm and apparently a Sainter and formerly ?CFO at Moorabbin.
I personally would be happy for an up and coming type to get the role. We don't need to poach a "top" CEO from elsewhere. Look at Melbourne and their shenanigans with Paul MacNamee.
In all honesty we aren't a massive drawcard for an already established top CEO - a medium sized club in the AFL which is actually quite a small business venture....... be perfect for a bloke thrusting himself forward to forge his career.... and our future. Bring it on!

We had one of the best in Brian Waldron. Now that his nemesis GT has gone and time has allowed some wounds to heal, we could do a lot worse than offer Waldo the job. Let's remember that he wasn't sacked for doing a bad job. He had the club in great shape when he was "exited out", after a nasty internal scuffle with GT. He has done a magnificent job at the Storm and will have only improved due to that experience. Think about it. He has been fighting for a code that is based in a foreign and hostile market, he has raised their profile and membership, and has them stable and well off financially. Good practice for entering the cauldron that is St Kilda! Let's also remember he is well respected in the industry, has strong networks and already knows most of the people he will be dealing with.
As for the suggestion in other posts on in this forum, that Grant Thomas be offered the job, to quote the main character in the film, "Sexy Beast" when another character posed an unattractive offer.....the answer is, "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,no, no, no, no, no, no, no! Is it true that "objects in the rear view mirror appear closer than they are?"

We have as much chance of getting Bozo the clown as we do of getting Travis Payze... seeing that both are resting in Heavan.perfectionist wrote:Sol Trujillo (who has just become available) or Bozo the Clown - although it is difficult to tell them apart - with all due respects to Mr Bozo.
The lid is off after Round 2! Enjoy the journey, coz you just don't know where we'll end up. Live for today and seize the moment.
GT and Brian are pretty good friends. It had nothing to do with him why he went. Having said that he isnt coming back so lets look elsewhere.the shadow wrote:We had one of the best in Brian Waldron. Wouldnt have a clue about tonight but surely he is odds on to be the next president.Bernard Shakey wrote:Are you pre-empting a major announcement at the AGM tonight?plugger66 wrote:President and CEO in one. I dont think so.howlinwolf wrote:Would Michael Nettlefold be a candidate ?
StKilda past player and experience in big business.
Not sure on the status of GT & BW in terms of friendship. But I do know that it wasn't a 'scuffle' with GT that led to BW moving on.the shadow wrote:Nothing to do with it Plugger66? Grant and Brian good friends? Where do you get your information? Do you post this stuff just to be contrary? Unbelievable! Surely you are kidding!
It was some dealings in the boardroom that had BW exited out.
