Meh...
Whatever.
Who's gonna replace him?
I dont think its a massive loss.
personally I thought his handling of the Kingston council situation and the eventual Seaford settlement to be quite poor.
We need a ball breaker, who will not fold to anyone.
Just for once I would love it if we had someone on board who would tell it like it is and stick it up the AFL on occasion...

Sheesh stinger, "a sissies game......played by children of homesick nationalistic bigots in the main"...so people who move here have to bow to the great God of AFL or they are "nationalistic bigots"?? Better eat pies and drive Holdens too I guess eh? Good God
Lets face it, if Archie had left to run Cricket Australia you'd be a whole lot more comfortable wouldnt you, cos its a sport played by dinkie-di true-blue Aussies *spit* and doesnt pose a threat to the only game any Aussie is allowed to play in winter...oh unless you are a "nationalistic bigot"...or worse still a sissie!!!!

My original point referred to the incredible vitriol fired at him for the Seaford deal, which no one has been able to answer my question of how it is going to hurt the club.
All I can go by is the AFL who said we have the best deal of any club and will have the best facility - in my opinion job done.
Not to mention strengthening a whole new market of potential supporters and sponsors. How many other teams would love to open up a new market - all I would say. And really what do we gain financially out of the Moorabbin area?
Somehow many of you deem all this to be a failure.
Could our finances be in a better shape -certainly. Could we have a better deal at Telstra -certainly - but we are not alone in this case.
Without knowing the true ins and outs of the club we can only speculate at best on Archies tenure. But then I suppose this whole thing couldnt operate without speculation could it?
my beef with him is over thomas....nothing else.....but he is no great loss all the same.....a minor player as jb suggested.....but one with sh!t timing.....

You probably don't know this yet, but I am a visionary and after having consulted the tarot, read the tea leaves and done a lot of peyote drinking in the desert with a master shaman, I am of the firm unquestionable belief that this course that the current board have steered us onto in locating an AFL club in the backblocks of Seaford is a recipe for disaster and because of my great love for this club, it would be derelict of me if I were to just sit back, say nothing and just watch on while the architects of the St kilda football club's doom are left to peddle their buffoonery.
Besides, Sherlock, it isn't anti Saints vitriol as you put it, something I shouldn't have to explain to the likes of you, my venom if that's what you deem it to be, is directed solely at the current board for sending the club to Siberia!

Once again, the vocal minority carying on and using it as an opportunity to sink the boots in.
Sad... very sad.
Good luck AF. With friends like Saintsational, who needs an enema?

Can you supply one reason, one valid reason why Seaford will be worse for the club than Moorabbin?
Archie has dealt with three local councils simulataneously as well as the state govt, as well as the AFL. Damn sure you couldnt handle that.
The AFL state that w ehave the best deal of any club and will have the best facilities of any club - thats a fact.
Do you think Manchester United train at Old Trafford? No they train in a little village called Carrington miles awy from Manchester. Doesnt seem to have hurt them.
Well done Arch and good luck.
Oh there you go, talking about yourself in the third person again, no harm in wishing yourself luck though, I suppose!
Dealt with three councils, LOL, is that what you call it?
I would gladly open negotiations on behalf of the St Kilda football club with the Port Phillip/St kilda Council and I would deliver the best outcome for this football club!
The current board have no vision, only tunnel vision for Frankston as if this is the divine utopian mecca, furthermore distancing the club from it's heart and soul, historical origins and spiritual home, one step closer to merger/relocation.
This club located in St kilda could be a club that every player wants to play for, create for itself a real strong identity in the the most marketable suburb in Victoria and yet the club further distances itself from the area.
Even the St kilda festival which used to see a presence with players in attendance for chats, photos, etc...and memberships and merchandise for sale is now neglected.
No doubt the St kilda board will be all over a Frankston festival like ant's in a sugar bowl!
Wait until the cycle turns and we are on the bottom located in the backblocks of Seaford, you might have figured it out by then, but I highly doubt it!
When asked PRIVATELY what he thought about Seaford, a long serving current player said QUOTE " Yeah a few of the boys are not real happy about it"!
What do you reckon the players would say if they were offered a state of the art facility in the St Kilda area, even at Sandringham at the Trevor Barker Oval and this is precisely what the current board should have MADE happen!
Manchester United, like we are comparing apples with apples, right?
What's the name of our rich billionaire, tycoon American owners again?, doesn't immediately spring to mind for some reason!
The best of any club YOU say, now I know there's definitely a whole lotta shakin goin on!
DO THE MATHS AND THE SQUARES ARE ALL ROOTED.

I appreciate you coming on here and giving us your views. It's important for the fans and important us to get an accurate reading on the situation.
There's been one pinch-hitter on this thread already - something I don't like - but an honest, balanced view from those with insight must be encouraged.
So thanks for giving us your views; please make it a regular thing.
In answer to your question about how Seaford would hurt the club, I think it's important to understand why people love the club. We love it for different reasons.
I think there's a certain spirtual and emotional tie to Moorabbin. It's home. It feels like home. Walking the back streets from the train station to the ground...every time you do it, you feel seven years old. It's magic.
I guess why it hurts is because we were promised a deal had been all but done to keep St Kilda there. We want a facility that brings us closer to a premiership, but wanted that in our "special" place. Where we celebrate. Where we commiserate. Where our memories are. Where we can tell our kids "I stood here when Plugger kicked 10". It's important.
Now, it hasn't happened, but it feels like we haven't quite been given an honest answer. That's all. Did Kingston really move the goal posts that far? Or is that a certain few people on our side bottle the deal?
I think we'll never know the truth of what happened. I'm resigned to it. It hurts a little; I'm sure I'll get over it because I want a premiership more.
I guess that's the crux of it. Will we be disadvantaged going to Seaford? Probably not. Do football clubs in Europe have training bases away from the cities? Absolutely - but don't forget, most of those clubs play in the suburb/town from which they take they come.
So, yes, it's an emotional thing rather than performance-related. Guilty. But I suppose there's a feeling that we could have combined the two...and when we wheeled that premiership back to Moorabbin, well, what a feeling that would have been.
We don't play in St Kilda (or Moorabbin, which is our de facto home). We don't train there. Hawthorn and Collingwood have done it, but they've picked their mark and managed it superbly.
I guess that's our challenge. The board says it wants to become the bayside club. Well, I suppose that's what we have to become.
Let no stone be left unturned - and remember, while players make the team, it's fans who make the club.
Any chance you can elaborate here?Could our finances be in a better shape -certainly. Could we have a better deal at Telstra -certainly - but we are not alone in this case.
Should we be in a better position than we are? How long will it take us a) to get our own house in order and b) to get a better deal at Docklands?
Are we hamstrung on both fronts by exisiting deals?

One thing this forum can never have enough of is people with their finger on the pulse.
We've got a million speculators, but having a few who know their stuff - eg: Bono - makes this place much better to visit.
