I think you'll find Goddard on the ball this year unless he's needed somewhere else more later in the game. Gilbert will probably get more time as a forward simply because we have a ton of defenders and not nearly enough forwards (after Roo and Kosi). Geary looked great, but I'm not sure he'll be able to keep it up once we get the likes of Hayes, Joey and Gram back. Blake should start at CHB IMO. Goose isn't ready to handle the big key forwards yet. Don't write off X just yet either.

I thought Steven and Heyne looked likely - I'd be trying to squeeze them in somehow. Steven's built well too for a young lad. I'd have him ahead of Geary (although, I was also impressed with him tonight - harder than last year).

Its interesting because i think the Dempster incident saved L. Fisher's career. I think the coaches want Fish playinng that role. Other's you can use are Raph, Blake, or even Gilbert but everyone has a real go a Fish because he had a really bad patch of form. I really hope he can get back to his best because he is definately in the 22 on that.

Also I have X on a HBF- this is where he has played his best football and, because it is his last chance, lets free him up to run and create. Maybe to allow this you put S. Fisher to HB and Gram to a wing to ensure we are not too loose, as X is not that disiplined a defender.

Geez we need Baker back, he is of incredible importance. Not only is he the best tag in the comp, he is dangerous when he gets the ball.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Out of all the 22's on here I like this the best with the possible change of Jones for Heyne.

Heyne will be a gun but the team looks a bit too one paced with only Ray adding some speed.

With both Ray and cj in the team we have a bit more pace and this frees up our lesser paced players just a fraction, which could make all the difference.

However a very balanced best 22.

So, on the basis of last night's game, you would put Gilbert (who was woeful), Leigh Fisher and Farren Ray (who were mediocre), Armitage (who has never done anything in seniors, and didn't even get on the ground last night) and Goose (who looked all at sea last night) ahead of Raph, who was perhaps our BOG in the PF last year?

The rest are developing or injured

Gave Gards the ruck spot since I believe he still has improvement left in him and he is far more mobile around the ground. If fully fit he could average 18 hitouts and 15 touches per game. BJ, Gilbert and Raph to share some time up forward when Kosi is needed to ruck.

Heyne gets a chance since he's the only one who fits the mould we need. He can take a few grabs and also snag some goals from stoppages. More physically mature than most kids.

Geary has talent and can be a solid flanker if persevered with. Armo is our best backup inside mid. Bakes gets the tagging role ahead of Mini and Jones.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Gwilt play the majority of the year if Lyon doesn't want to put faith in the kids, however I just don't see any improvement from him.

I watched the entire game last night except for about 2 minutes when I went to get the phone. I can only assume that Heyne had 15 possessions and kicked three goals during that 2 minutes?????

What did Gilbert do last night? Did he score any goals, did he take any marks, did he set up any forward moves, did he lay any tackles? Maybe he did all these things in the same two minutes I was out of the room when Heyne had his golden patch of form??

As for Ray, I though he looked under enormous pressure every time he had the ball, and he turned it over a few times as well.

But, as I said on another thread, I feel I must have been watching a different game??

It's probably just the difference between viewing the game optomistcally or pessemistically. Gilbert and Ray were 2 of our top possession getters. Ray had the same effectiveness as Goddard and Gilbert was more effective than Dal.

Im not saying Gilbert had an awesome game, I just reckon you're judging too harhsly.
