Few people I'd like to note-
#18-
Goddard is as tough as ever. He went in all day and he will be a force in the midfield over the course of the season. His disposal is still accurate and seemed to be crashing the packs comfortably. Wouldnt suprise me if he contends for our B&F this year.
#19-
Gilbert slotted nicely into the forward line and looks to be a future prospect for the 3-man forward structure Ross obviously desires. Took quite a few good pack marks and was fairly accurate in front of the goals. A good fit for him. Kicked two goals today.

Heyne was going into the packs all day and had quite a bit of the ball, however the utulisation of his disposal was poor. He did some good things but mostly he fumbled the ball under pressure.

Ray was actually quite impressive. He slotted in nicely and his disposal was clean. He is very reminiscant of Charlie Gardiner but he seemed more consistant over the four 15 minute qtrs. Obv hard to tell from 1 hour of play but he was trying all day and it seemed to pay off when he got his hands on the ball.

A lot of people were calling for Koschitzke to be traded at the conclusion of the 2008 season and, from what I saw today, he has only improved over the summer. Granted his opposition was less than elite, he took quite a few pack marks and seemed more comfortable in front of the goals. Would expect him to improve from his efforts last season.

Fisher stayed mostly in the midfield today and it suits him perfectly. He is an impressive player and showed that again today. His disposal was clean and he will be one to watch throughout the season as he pushes himself further up the ground towards the forward line.

Typical Dal Santo today- clean in his disposals and showed excellent control over the ball in driving it forward. He has bulked up quite a bit from last season and seems to be a lot stronger in the way he goes into contests.

I think everyone was unsure as to how Maguire would come back from his injury but he actually did quite well. He seemed to move quite well and, as the game progressed, he became more confident with his disposal. Tungatalum is extremely exciting. He has pace and, though he is quite small in size, seemed to have no problem crashing packs and searching for the ball. Missed a goal early but recounted with a thrilling goal on the run that was Milne-esque. Looks to have a future at the club and will be a fan favourite in the years to come.
Also worth mentioning for notable performances:
King, Dawon, Gwilt, McQualter and Miles.
Injuries:
Gram- who seemed to go off cluthing his hamstring within the first 5 minutes of the game. Hopefully nothing too seriously as he was seen, after the first, sitting in the stands with Riewoldt and a few others without an ice pack- which can be considered a good sign. Probably left the ground as a precuationary measure and to avoid further aggravation as, when the injury occured, he seemed keen to play out the game but was approached by the trainers.
Was an extremely one-sided affair, as expected, as the teams seemed to be Rookies V Seniors. Unfortunately, because of this, it is hard to accurately judge the performance of the players and would expect NAB Cup to be more telling.
Overall, a great day and quite a large turn out. Was quite a solemn mood to begin with, the biggest cheer welcolmed after Maguire's first disposal in the first, but people got more into the game as it went along. Afterall, it is quite difficult to show support for a particular side at the Intra-Club Match.

I absolutely love the training jumpers, I didn't get to make it today and I'm spewing, I've been trying to get those jumpers worn by the club for years, it is still a surreal feeling just to see photos.
I don't know what it is but it just seems so much better this year. I sent in last years training jumpers too (only the basketball singlets) but it just feels so different this time...

I enjoyed getting down there today, about 1200 or so (?) there to support the boys.
Starlight had a young saints fan there to toss the coin, nice moment for him. Interview with Max at half time, can't believe he is the oldest guy there now. Talked about the demolition, and how Kosi is fascinated with the machinery around the place. Max also had his two young boys there, interviewer talked about how not many father sons at the saints lately so Max is doing well for our future.
Roo, Lenny, Ball, X, Schneider (for the first half) were sitting up behind us watching the game for their various reasons. I saw number 13 run out for a brief moment towards the end and he had a real go at the ball, but was it my imagination that a runner came and took him off. Was he not supposed to be out there?
My points that I will mention:
*Great to see Goose out there
*Gilbert looking comfortable
*Eddy seemed to have a new maturity about him
*Armo tackling hard
*I for one will get excited about Kosi looking fit and kicking goals, why on earth not (shrugs)
*Missed not seeing Luke Ball out there, but I probably wouldn't risk it given his string of bad luck

not the greatest game to watch as some have already said that it was seniors v rookie and seconds. Turned some of the game into circle work but ross was correct when he said the movement was quick and the hands and structure was impressive.
The first bounce is always interesting and black (seniors) had King, dal, BJ and jones in there. Gardiner, armo, stevo and I think fish started in there for white (seconds).
Stevens played on dal and had a very good first half. Was in every pack, his disposal inside was good despite having little class around him. Dal worked his way into the game and used the ball very well.
Suprisingly begley started on kosi and competed reasonably well in the first hlf (moved into the black team in the second half). Kosi's hands were good but as has already been mentioned, hard to get excited by what kosi beat.
Chip played CHF in the first quarter which was good to see, along with gilbert. Gilbo was more effective in this position and chips went back down back.
BJ spent the whole warm up kicking on his left foot. The guy is pure class and will have a big season this year. Refuses to stop improving which is a great sign.
Goose looks to have a better rounded body with good muscle size but not over the top. This seems to be the case with alot of the more senior players, they all look to have trimmed 1-2 kg's off. I thought his touch improved and he stopped kicking it long and looked to spot up players. Was couragous as usual going back with packs.
Thought howards work rate was very good, look the guy wont get you 40 posies but he is working hard. Mcgarry has decient height and really good hands. Mc Grath is a taller bugger and choo choo could be our answer to davey.

It was pretty packed in the terraces, and plenty of people out the back at the refreshments.
I reckon closer to 2,000.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Solar I know you will think I am having a go at you but you have a fair few things wrong. Begley was on the same side as Kosi for a start. Chips played pretty much on the ball and half back for most of the game. McGarry was on Milne for all the first half. As for your comment on Ray well if he wasnt in the best 3 on the ground then you are not a system.

Gram - Started well, positioned himself to receive the ball well. Got tightness in his hamstring in the 1st quarter. Wasn't risked after that.
King - Solid. Dominated the ruck. Taps to position still excellent. Moved around the ground well. Swapped teams for the third quarter.
McEvoy - Looked ok in patches. Moving better than last year but still looks a bit shakey. Got winded after being slung in a tackle.
L.Fisher - Not much impact. Looks fit.
Montagna - Excellent. Played confident footy and had heaps of it. The best of the mids.
Gardiner - Not bad. Moving well and contested well. Beaten by King overall. Played the third quarter in the A team.
Begley - Tried hard but didn't really impress. Skills poor.
Goddard - Started well and then faded out. Still looks set for a big 09.
Gilbert - Very impressive up forward. Didn't have fantastic opposition but held his marks and kicked well. Could be the answer up forward?
Armitage - Got better as the game went on, was good in and under and went after everything. Finished the game in the B team.
Heyne - Looks good. Is a ready made player and has confidence. Kicked a nice goal. Played in the A team.

Koschitzke - Didn't play on a superstar and had great delivery but he did dominate up forward. Kicking for goal good bar one shocker from 10 metres out.
S.Fisher - Good early. Then solid after that. Played through the middle for most of the game.
Dal Santo - Excellent. Looked a level above the rest. Skills spot on. Stayed with his man when not in possession.
Blake - Good in patches. Played across half back and deep in defence. Rarely beaten. Skills were good.
Howard - Tried hard. Has good pace but didn't get enough of the pill.
Maguire - Fantastic to see him back. Skills weren't perfect but its nice to see his booming kicks coming out of half back. Was in the A Team.
McQualter - Good in the packs but lacked spark. Played in the B Team.
Gwilt - Had little impact.
Steven - Got himself into the game in the second half and did a few good things. Loves a contest but still looks raw. Played a quarter in the A Team.
Connors - Looked alright. Is much bigger than 08 and got alot of the ball. Skills let him down a few times but he looks a very difficult man to tackle.
Jones - Not much impact. Kicking still looks very awkward.
Eddy - Excellent. Had a heap of the ball and used it well. Played the full game in the A Team.
Geary - Looks much more solid but didn't get much of it.
Dawson - Not bad. Played in the A Team and did well from limited opportunities.

McGarry - Very good. Played with confidence and seemed to fit in. Got a run for the A Team in the final quarter.

Begley - Tried hard but didn't really impress. Skills poor.
Goddard - Started well and then faded out. Still looks set for a big 09.
Gilbert - Very impressive up forward. Didn't have fantastic opposition but held his marks and kicked well. Could be the answer up forward?
Armitage - Got better as the game went on, was good in and under and went after everything. Finished the game in the B team.
Heyne - Looks good. Is a ready made player and has confidence. Kicked a nice goal. Played in the A team.
Ray - One of the best. Won some contested footy and presented well. Missed a few targets but hit most. Promising.
Koschitzke - Didn't play on a superstar and had great delivery but he did dominate up forward. Kicking for goal good bar one shocker from 10 metres out.
S.Fisher - Good early. Then solid after that. Played through the middle for most of the game.
Dal Santo - Excellent. Looked a level above the rest. Skills spot on. Stayed with his man when not in possession.
Blake - Good in patches. Played across half back and deep in defence. Rarely beaten. Skills were good.
Howard - Tried hard. Has good pace but didn't get enough of the pill.
Maguire - Fantastic to see him back. Skills weren't perfect but its nice to see his booming kicks coming out of half back. Was in the A Team.
McQualter - Good in the packs but lacked spark. Played in the B Team.
Gwilt - Had little impact.
Steven - Got himself into the game in the second half and did a few good things. Loves a contest but still looks raw. Played a quarter in the A Team.
Connors - Looked alright. Is much bigger than 08 and got alot of the ball. Skills let him down a few times but he looks a very difficult man to tackle.
Jones - Not much impact. Kicking still looks very awkward.
Eddy - Excellent. Had a heap of the ball and used it well. Played the full game in the A Team.
Geary - Looks much more solid but didn't get much of it.
Dawson - Not bad. Played in the A Team and did well from limited opportunities.
Milne - Typical Milne. Caught holding the ball one minute, snagging a goal the next. I think he kicked 3 or 4.
Miles - Did a couple of nice things but didn't have a huge impact.
Simpkin - Didn't notice much at all.
McGrath - Very tall. Very lean. Very quick. Didn't see him touch it.
Tungatalum - Looks lively, and tiny. Great pace. Gets into space. Kicked the B Team's only goal.

Excited about Nick Heyne.
Abit disappointed most of the other draftees didnt play.. wonder if there are injury clouds over the likes of Lynch, Cahill and Smith?
Would have liked to see Lynch play as from what ive seen he looks talented.
Was skeptical about the hype over Heyne when we picked him up later than expected, but geeze he sounds promising. Wish I could have seen him today.
Cant wait to get back into the footy. I need it.
