the_D_train wrote:If I had to pick a team i would put Paul Cahill infront of Jarryd Allen as a KPF I would also but Lynch before Allen.

it comes from left of field most of you will think but I watched a few U18s matches and I really like their aggression and defensive pressure aswell as their mobility. Which i think Allen is lacking.

I would give Cahill a shot at FF in the NAB cup and if he or Lynch play well I would give them a go, make Allen work for the spot
form will be the best indicator.

if one of those three sets it on fire in the NAB cup, then by all means give him a go.

there is a key position forward spot up for grabs.

it's a longshot, though.

Agreed that these days there are no "set" forward positions.

You play a mixture of players in the forward half of the ground to perform a variety of roles. That's about as defined as you can get.

Between Schneider, Milne, Riewoldt, Koschitzke, Gram, X and maybe one of Allen or Lynch we need a winning score.

If Kosi plays in the ruck and Gram off half-back then obviously the load shifts ... but instead of ear-marking players to be "FF" or "CHF" you can mix it up and change your plans and structures, with different players contributing to kick that score.

Look for Grammy to kick 25+ goals if he plays permanent midfield ...

you're right.

however there is still such a thing as a key position forward (a strong leading/marking target who can convert) and looking at that list of names (unless allen or lynch can step up quickly) i can see only one ... riewoldt.

so if I read this right...
no one is rating M Gardiner in our '09 plans.
no one is really rating Kosi at FF, and are prepared to try two complete unknowns, or Allen who hasnt lit up the world in the forward line, and very lukewarm on McEvoy, and we cant waste Goddard in the FWD line
Everyone has Ray on the HBF (when he is more suited to the wing???) thrown Begley in for good measure in an attempt to free up a player, Dempster was a huge which proves you dont know what you have lost until its gone, and we cant waste goddard down back
The way I see it, X, Baker, and Maguire are unknown factors
Which leads to the obvious conclusion we are down one 1st grade onballer for '09. I think alot of people are hoping Steven is going to pull a Selwood next year.
I know this is a bit of fun, but until the deck chair shuffle is sorted after the NAB games, I'll be honest and say I have no idea what RL is going to do.
I just hope he has more of a plan than me...

I wouldnt mind Raph up forward.

he needs confidence in his abilities which i think he may of found at the end of this season.

If he can nail a few goals early it would do him the world of good.

he played most of the second part of the season as second ruck/ruck forward and the coach said in an interview in july or august that he and kosi agree that's where he plays his best football.

whether that still stands i couldn't tell you.

yeah I know but thats the problem for big kosi, he is running out of positions. He is not a great tap ruckman, he is mobile enough, which will be plus for with the new boundary throw in, but what will happen when McEvoy etc start pushing up.

i hope he takes his game to another level. wouldn't write him off just yet.

Begley is 22 and been playing AFL for 4 years

he has a lot more upside than a Clinton Jones who has been playing AFL for the last 16 years

If Jones can make our team Begley can

(i like Jones, i am just picking a player with iffy disposal)
agree. and eddy, birss and geary did not exactly set the world on fire in their games. so youd think begley will see some game time.

noone seems to think much of armo? im hoping armo and steven can step up (but i aint holding my breath)

i agree with the poster who said it is no accident the hawks won the flag after their 2 forwards kicked 190 goals between them. Saints desperately need another tall forward capable of kicking 50 goals (and im afraid kosi ain't capable of kicking 50 goals).

im loving our new draftees by the way. we kicked ass. they look miles better than the previous 5 years draftees.

this team is a bit different but it just clicks in my mind obviously question marks over Maguire and Baker aswell as Lynch and Dempster will be out for a while but if everyone was healthy next year this would be the team i would pick.

B: S Gilbert - M Hudghton – S Baker

HB: S Dempster - M Maguire - S Fisher

C: C Begley - L Hayes - J Gram

HF: N Dal Santo - N Riewoldt - L Montagna

F: S Milne - R Clarke - J Koschitzke

Foll: S King - B Goddard - L Ball

Inter : D Armitage - J Steven - A Schnieder - F Ray

What does everyone think ?

I like Lynch. His form is excellent in the practice matches. Also Dempster has done well to get back from a reco so quickly.

Is King expected to ruck all game??

I would still like to see Blake in the side

Of course Blake is playing. He has finished top in the B&f the last 2 years. People need to realise he is an important player for us. Matter of fact in the above side he is probably ahead of 8-10 players.

I would somehow doubt that King would have the stamina to ruck and then rest in the forward line all match.

And if I'm right, our forward line will be very short
