in my opinion 7 out of 21 will become at least 150+ game players.
Steven - expecting big things in 09
Armitage - have faith i think he can do it
Gilbert - will be a big part of our defense in future
Gwilt - has shown he can do it
Clarke - most promising in 08 should continue to improve
Sam Fisher - superstar
Goddard - superstar
McEvoy, Allen and Leigh Fisher also could get there or there about
also Geary and particularly Eddy could become decent players
im looking forward to see who we pick up on saturday

Agree totally... From what I saw of Steven in the twos last year he will be a superstar...undecided wrote:in my opinion 7 out of 21 will become at least 150+ game players.

He played a handful of good games that covered the rest of his mediocre season.
Has shown just enough not to get delisted, hasn't shown he'll be anything yet...let alone most promising player, thats a joke.
Gwilt...again, played a few above average games...nothing yet

And with no Harves running through the middle, could be a great chance for Armo and Jack in bursts to step up and get that game time.bigcarl wrote:or maybe we need to get some more games into them.Thinline wrote:Geez ... Class of '06 needs to get a wriggle on.
we seem to have implemented a "safety first" policy over the past couple of seasons, which has slowed the development of some players.

A bit like the Aussie Cricket Team, a few have been picked on reputation and not on form!bigcarl wrote:or maybe we need to get some more games into them.Thinline wrote:Geez ... Class of '06 needs to get a wriggle on.

disagree. he played some very good football towards the end of the season and was in our best players in the final we won.Saintschampions08 wrote:raph has shown just enough not to get delisted, hasn't shown he'll be anything yet ... let alone most promising player, thats a joke
was also named "most promising player" at the b&f.
it was a fair achievement given the year he had ... his father's terminal illness, being diagnosed with epilepsy and his rumoured depression over the constant baggings he received on here and from st kilda supporters in general.
he's likely to really shut a few mouths in 2009 imo.

That's my point exactly, he played some good football in the what last 6 games of the yearbigcarl wrote:disagree. he played some very good football towards the end of the season and was in our best players in the final we won.Saintschampions08 wrote:Has shown just enough not to get delisted, hasn't shown he'll be anything yet ... let alone most promising player, thats a joke

He came back into the team in round 20, and i commend him for that....but the first 5 games he played (r1-3, r7&8) were nothing short of horribly bad.
Why does the 6 good games he played outweigh the 5 terrible games he played?
And to be fair, the fact that he won the 'most promising player' award shows exactly how far our young players are behind most other clubs.
Basing the last 6 games on him to be a star, is jumping the gun. Remember how he played in most of '07 and some of '06....some people forget the bad too quickly.

agree he wasn't good early in the season, but i think you might be underestimating the effects of his undiagnosed illness and his father's impending death.

Maybe i am, but i'm not saying he's crap - nor am i saying he's good.bigcarl wrote:they take a while to come on.Saintschampions08 wrote:That's my point exactly, he played some good football in the what last 6 games of the yearbigcarl wrote:disagree. he played some very good football towards the end of the season and was in our best players in the final we won.Saintschampions08 wrote:Has shown just enough not to get delisted, hasn't shown he'll be anything yet ... let alone most promising player, thats a joke

I'm just trying to remind people that he has a huge amount of work to do before he's anything near a good player. He hasn't even earned his spot yet, he needs to keep performing every week to keep it.
I do have a good feeling about Gwilt thoughSaintschampions08 wrote:Get a grip on Raph Clarke....undecided wrote:in my opinion 7 out of 21 will become at least 150+ game players.

if i was jack steven, bored on a thursday night i would hate reading all the love for him...god hopes he succeeds

he can play forward or back so he can be very use full. And we dont really have like a 3rd tall up forward like a Mark Williams and i think Gwilt could play a role like thatsaintsRrising wrote:Gwilt has shown very little in terms of being a genuine first 22 player on a consistent basis.
I expect him to play very little football in the seniors in 2009.

i quite like him as a half back or winger, but the jury's well and truly out on whether he'll make it as a forward.undecided wrote:he can play forward or back so he can be very use full. he kicked three goals for 2008 despite playing quite a bit of football in the forward line. not convinced he's a natural goal-kicker.

I think he's a bit of everything, but doesn't excel at anything in particular.bigcarl wrote:i quite like him as a half back or winger, but the jury's well and truly out on whether he'll make it as a forward.undecided wrote:he can play forward or back so he can be very use full. He showed glimpses playing forward, playing back and even when running on the ball...but he didn't do it consistently or well enough.
Still, has a chance for '09.
To be fair the delivery to all the forwards was shocking as was the general forward setup.bigcarl wrote:i quite like him as a half back or winger, but the jury's well and truly out on whether he'll make it as a forward.undecided wrote:he can play forward or back so he can be very use full. Steven - who knows, a few performances in the 2s is nothing to start dribbling about.
Armo - I hope so. Had a static year last year. Needs to show a fair bit more over the next two years.
Gilbert - hopefully will mature into a solid, reliable 2nd defender. Current an adequate 3rd defender who can show up against the best teams
Gwilt - now I like Gwilt, but tbh I think he'll end up around 50 games not 150.
Clarke - I agree will be at least 150 gamer, potentially over 200. Future AA not out of question. Big call I know but this kid oozes talent and he looks like he's just figured out how to put it all together.
Sam Fisher - agreed.
BJ - agreed. Our best hope for either a Brownlow, or a Norm Smith, which I have pencilled him in for over the next 3 years.
Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...
Yep the "architect" is a gun on the field, I also enjoyed his interview on FC giving us an insight into how passionate a Sainter he is. Given that he really hit form at the end of the year, it shows he has the ability to attract brownlow votes - 2 X 3 votes in the last 4 rounds.Richter wrote:God, it's good to read a footy related thread again!!!!undecided wrote:in my opinion 7 out of 21 will become at least 150+ game players.
