crapola regarding sponsorship issues . . .

Post: # 675750Post Geezer »

what a load of crap that people wont go out and buy sponsors products because of ben cousins.
people are not fickle like that.
take petrol for instance. . . . people buy it .... from the same sites that sell it high cos they have to. . . . they dont boycott shell or mobil or BP. . . just like they wont boycott jeld wen doors and windows.
BTW jeld wen is a multi billion dollar international corp with a subsiduary in australia.
they sponsor multiple cars in nascar, NHL ice hockey teams , NBA basketballl arena's. . . .they arnt going to give one rats toss bag if ben cousins is playing for stkilda.
load of rubbish this "sponsor backlash thing"
sponors should look into their own backyard and shoddy and shady deals in their own corporate boardrooms and regard that as more important to the general public rather that if ben cousins is one player on a 38 man footbll club.

Anyone ever seen a successfully co-ordinated boycott? It takes a widespread public will to make it effective.

In the case of product like Jeld-Wen, I'd guess (I'm not involved in any way in the building industry) that most of the branding is targeted b2b at those undertaking to put in doors and windows as part of a project (i.e. contractors and vendors like "the door store") - I wouldn't expect many consumers demand that their door or window is/isn't a particular brand... it's more about size/fit, about durability, about appearance - and about price. None of those criteria are affected by Ben Cousins. These are not whim products (ala McDonalds/Hungry Jacks, Energiser/Duracell), I wonder how many people here would know of alternate door and window manufacturers off the top of their heads?

I would be very surprised to find out later that a Jeld-Wen type organisation had experienced a poor ROI as a result of Ben Cousins.

Personally I think "sponsorship issues" is the new convienient catch cry from clubs who are simply trying to backflip...

I would hope sponsors do not have any influence over the decisions made by our board. If this is the case, why as members do we bother voting in the board when the final say in decision making is an external party? If so, members should have a say in who our major sponsors are.

I hope Mr. Jeld Wen is not reading this.

Very convincing arguments that they shouldn't be sponsoring sports teams at all, as it has no effect on the buying decision of consumers.
