Cadel was voted Australian Sportsperson Of The Year by readers of the Age last year.
I call that a win.
silly me I guess that definitely makes him "Australia's greatest sportsman ever"
please
a very good athlete he may be, you may even steps that to a great athlete
but "Australia's greatest sportsman ever", at this point in time if he does nothing else in his career (which is entirely possible or as possible as him, or probably more possible than him winning the tour DeFrantz, I can see people sitting around saying yes Cadell Evans was Australia's greatest sportsman ever he came second twice

The so called "debate" has nothing at all to do with what this thread was intended for IMO... (well I am still talking about Cadell Evans)
How about continuing with it via PM or maybe a mod can relocate this now defunct thread to the General Forum
and nobody has explained to me how it is not blatant discrimination
I never said Cadel was our greatest sportsman ever. I said he's probably our greatest cyclist ever. In which is based on what he has achieved on the biggest race in the world so far. No one mentioned potential or whatever.
So sainteronline, I don't see what your point is here. I don't know if you have a point.

(The race that you are basing your argument on is a "team sport",the only reason that Evans has finished higher on the podium than what Opperman did, is because he has a better team, individually what has Evans done, how can you possibly compare a man who has won nothing, to a man who broke five world records in 14 days, your argument is flawed you are comparing a team event against an individual)

my point is that Evans would be jumping up and down if he was the only one to be subjected to the same drug tests that cousins is being subjected to when there are other people playing under less stringent conditions and drug tests who have tested positive twice!
That is my point
he also won the Paris-brest-paris and broke many world records
do I have to do a comparison of all their wins, because I think you will find that oppys record far outweighs anything that Evans has done
heres just 1
In 1940 Opperman set 100 distance records in a 24-hour race at Sydney. Many were not broken until decades later. He won the Blue Riband for fastest time three times in the Warrnambool to Melbourne Classic. In the Goulburn to Sydney Classic he twice won from scratch, three times being the fastest rider.
I think Cadel Evans is our best ever cyclist. You think Oppy is. Okay. Cool. Do you still want to harp on about your opinions?
The part about Cadel being pissed if he was target tested like Cousins...... its a frikken hypothetical, no one would know anyones reaction to that. He already gets tested reguarly. Since the UCI last year decided to really crack down on drug cheats, they have really become the most drug tested athletes. And he already gets tested more than Cousins, and Cousins should be thankful he's getting a second chance.

(Compare their records, for complete wins and records, not stage wins actual wins and if you still think that Evans is a better cyclist than oppy then you are a bigger fool than I even thought you were or you just don't want to admit you are wrong)
