New clash strip coming soon - "back to our traditionalr
http://saints.com.au/tabid/5315/Default ... wsid=69698
The St Kilda Football Club is preparing to launch its new clash strip for the 2009 season.
The Saints have worked closely with official apparel partner ISC and the AFL on developing a clash jumper that meets the AFL’s requirement of being predominantly white while respecting the Club’s colours and tradition.
St Kilda CEO Archie Fraser said, “Our new clash strip takes us back to our traditional roots and I believe that it will resonate strongly with our supporters.
“We love the passion our fans have for the red white & black and have kept an eye and an ear on the debate about our clash strip throughout the last year and are very proud of what we have come up with.â€

Its an AFL ruling.Mr X from the West wrote:Can someone explain to me WTF the clash strip has to be "...predominantly white"?
Why is "white" given prominence over red and black?
I didn't mind our last clash guersey, not a fan of the predominently white jumper, but they are the rules and I thought ours was alot better than others.
They must be confident of the fans approval to be making such a big deal of it.

Attention all the people from the club on here.
We like this kit. It's predominantly white. Throw in white shorts and that - as has been confirmed to me by people closer to the matter than I - will suit the AFL's requirements of a clash/2nd kit.
Given its popularity, use it. Don't go back to the faded apron or any other abomonation.
Don't try and create marketing genuises of yourselves when it hasn't been called for by the marketplace.

...but with a white back?
We wore it in the 2006 game v Port. Obviously no collar this time and a change to black numbers. I wasn't huge on it - made the players (especially Steven Baker) look fat and slow...

Also the sponsors didn't like it as the logos don't stand out. But we have gone over this a thousand times, why do people keep saying the same thing.JeffDunne wrote:Whinge to the AFL not the club.evertonfc wrote:Attention all the people from the club on here.

*sigh* As has been said time and time again, the AFL won't accept a clash jumper that has vertical stripes. (Unless you're Collingwood.) Besides, I'd hardly call it predominantly white.
And before anyone starts up, I've got nothing against that jumper. I love it and it's probably the best alternate jumper we've had. But when it comes doen to it, it doesn't pass the AFL's guidelines and as far as they're concerned, that's the end of the matter.
Word has been out for a while now that next year's clash strip is the traditional tri-colour with a wider white stripe and a white back. There was also a possibly of having a red outline around the numbers, but I'm not sure what the final outcome was on that.

Yep, I'd think most people would support a return to that jumper or even the hot cross bun jumper of the late 90's if it was possible but it isn't.st_nick wrote:*sigh* As has been said time and time again, the AFL won't accept a clash jumper that has vertical stripes. If it is the jumper that stinger described I'd be interested to see how it looks in the flesh before commenting on it. Needless to say it would be a massive improvement on the current monstrosity and I'm glad Archie has acknowledged the feeling of our supporters on that.

Why don't we have this as our MAIN jumper and the current one as the clash with a wider white strip and white back.JeffDunne wrote:Whinge to the AFL not the club.evertonfc wrote:Attention all the people from the club on here.

The candy stripe was the best jumper we have had IMO, I love it....

Might be because the traditional strip is predominately black......with white creating the biggest contrast for which that black strip clashes with other teams........Mr X from the West wrote:Can someone explain to me WTF the clash strip has to be "...predominantly white"?

If the umpires can change their colours each week so they don't clash with either of the teams, then why can't we have a number of clash jumpers that we can wear, depending on who we're playing against? That way we can bring back the candy-stripe introduce the proposed new one, depending on who we're up against (away games only, of course!)
Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.
