just the ticket- changes to Ticketing

From March 1, 2009, tickets to all International matches at the MCG will be available through Ticketek.

The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) and Ticketek Pty Ltd today announced that Ticketek has been awarded the Ticketing and Access Control services contract at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), effective for five years from March 1, 2009.

Patrons will not need to alter their ticket purchasing processes before this time.

The MCG is one of the largest and most successful stadiums in Australia. Hosting events including international cricket, Australian Rules football, soccer, rugby and concerts, it is attended by more than three million people annually.

The new partnership will provide patrons quick and easy access to secure tickets to events at the MCG via a number of channels. These include Australia's leading entertainment and events website at Ticketek.com, the Ticketek call centre, one of many Ticketek retail agency outlets across Australia or at the venue box office.

I wonder how this affects our membership/s
and if it doesn't include the Etihad stadium it could be messy for a while.
Differant ticketing agencies for differant games- in Victoria
although we are used to using differant agencies for interstate games.

The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) and Ticketek Pty Ltd today announced that Ticketek has been awarded the Ticketing and Access Control services contract at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), effective for five years from March 1, 2009.
anyway- in 5 months we'll know :)

With our ONLY game at the G in 2009 being Rd 22 v Melb, lets hope they have plenty of early problems that will see ppl like Eddie McGuire being denied access to the stadium with their Collingwood memberships

We do hope that all will be working perfectly by around Rd 20 8-) !!

Wont really have much of an effect, save a different company printed on your ticket

Might affect a little the Membership Depts of the Clubs who play home games at both grounds, but as Clubs generally deal with the MCG/TD ticketing people rather than TM/TT direct I woldnt think it would even affect them overly

Just means that if you buy seats or whatever to a game at the G, you go through TT not TM (much as you do for events at Rod Laver Arena)

This is very poorly written - either innocently or deliberately.

I reckon the "Ticketing and Access Control services contract " will not include AFL matches:

* the reference to AFL football is only a reference to the types of events which occur at the MCG
* the opening para refers specifically only to International match tickets being sourced through Ticketek
* the "Ticketing and Access Control services contract" will be for whatever is in the detailed specification for services, and they haven't said what is in (other than International matches) or out.

It's very unclear, and possibly the sort of media release issued to put the wind up another party.

from the ticketek site

http://premier.ticketek.com.au/
search 'AFL'

From 1 March 2009 Ticketek will be ticketing all events at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Patrons will not need to alter their ticket purchasing processes before this time.
More information will be available in early 2009.

from the sauce, the mcc website, this is the gospel:

IMO it's great news on two fronts:

(1) Ticketwanker are bloody hopeless, and can't seem to grasp the IT side of things as a large ticketing organisation should

(2) Ticketwanker are on notice now, effectively for Telstra Dome....if Ticketek do a better job than TM at the MCG, you'd think TD ticketing could go across to Ticketek! (nice little tongue twister eh?)

New ticketing partner for MCG in 2009

Nov 07, 2008

The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) and Ticketek Pty Ltd today announced that Ticketek has been awarded the Ticketing and Access Control services contract at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), effective for five years from March 1, 2009.

Patrons will not need to alter their ticket purchasing processes before this time.

outlets across Australia or at the venue box office.

MCC chief executive officer Stephen Gough said the benefits that Ticketek will bring to the MCG include improved IT functionality, enhanced marketing opportunities, more userfriendly ticket selling and access control systems and increased flexibility of ticket formats
which will benefit patrons and venue hirers.

“The MCG is a world-class stadium and we continue to look at ways of improving service to our patrons and enhancing their venue experience,â€

It doesn't mention any sport, as it doesn't need to.

Each ground/venue has one ticketing agency for all events there.

ie. Docklands = Ticketmaster, MCG and Rod Laver Arena = Ticketek.

All MCG events will now be ticketed by ticketek, regardless of the sport.

Melbourne Park (ie Rod Laver and hisesne Arena) is currently in the process of their ticketeing tender, with a decision to remain with Ticketek or go to another provider holefully to be decided before the Australan open.

Telstra Dome is under contract with Ticketmaster for a few years to come.

Ticketmaster also just recently lost their contract at the Arts Cetnre, so they must be feeling the strain.

IMHO, Ticketek are a lot easier to deal with and a far better company (Australian Run) than Ticketetmaster, so it can only be a good thing that they have lost the 'G'

Maybe things have changed but originally Tciketmaster was linked to the Docklands Stadium because Channel 7 owned both the Dome and Ticketmaster and therefore they created the monopoly and Ticketek was aligned with PBL-the Pakcer Empire. It may have changed since then.
Of course March 1 2009 doesn't give people much opportunity to get used to a two streamed ticket purchasing system.
But what the hell, it doesn't improve our chances of buying a ticket for that stupid Monday night game against Collingwood.
