No hope for a flag next year without Cousins
In my opinion.
Our midfield will be the same story next year. Slow, Dal Santo will get destroyed by tags. Montagna will continue to be found out. Ball will knacker himself every week, and Lenny Hayes will never kick goals from 5m in front.
Without Cousins it will be the same defeatable mob won't it?
I'm placing all my hope in a cocaine, heroine, alocohol, speed addicted violent mafia associate called Cousins.
Polar opposite to Harvey isn't it. Weird.

A little from column A a little from column b!WayneJudson42 wrote:You're either mentally unstable, or too stupid to know any better.
Where is our dynamic speed and hard running going to come from without Cousins? We've seen Ball/Hayes/Montagna/Dal Santo for years now and they need help. Those guys need serious help.
Dumb statement alert: It will be the same midfield as last year without Cousins.
Putting your faith in miraculous career turnarounds from Dal Santo and Ball is getting boring. That's as good as they'll be.
They need help. They need Cousins to show them the way.

Our midfield does need to lift, I hope we always continue to change and adapt as the competition gets faster. I am not sure if we can pin all our hopes on BC being the one to turn this around, as so many factors will change the dynamics next year.
*We will probably have new midfield coaching staff
*Luke Ball's presence will be welcomed back
*The group will need to restructure with the absence of Harvey

Cousins ( if fit and ok) will help our midfield in a huge way but that alone will not be enough. We need :
* Armitage to become a solid midfielder
* Dal Santo to work out how to beat a tag
* Ball to stay fit
* Hayes to play angry but not get reported
* Montagna to be more consistant
* Gram to play in there more
* Goddard to get in there more
* One or more of Stevens, Howard, X Clarke, to be able to go into the middle and be effective.
We need 8-9 midfielderswho can rotate through and all be effective

Pathetically put but with a grain of truth.
The whole reason we need Cousins is to allow some of the youngsters to mature such as Steven and the #13 I hope is a mid.
Cousins and Ray plus Armo better and X or bj or Gram or one or two others stepping up into a more senior role will boost our one paced midfield.

Lance or James??

I hope you didnt write the second last line in the OP just to get a reaction....?brown-coat wrote:This thread needs more retarded one line replies.
Is anyone going to argue against my statement? Do you believe our midfield will be fine and miraculously turn their form around next year without any help?
but anyway -no- our midfield will be worse next year because it wont have Harvey.
Ball - tough but no goals
Hayes - tough but no goals
OMG NDS - possessions no goals
But without Cuz it will be decimating to see Roo have to go upfield to get the ball himself.

Agree with most of that, expect that I wouldn't be rotating Roo through the midfield, I don't think that is a strength of his.
However, players like Goddard, Fisher & Gram can add another dimension to our midfield. They were given some grounding this year, and should improve futher in those roles next year.
Also, with our new training regime moving into its first full pre-seaon, we need to see significant fitness/conditioing improvement in:
- Dal
- X. Clarke
- Armo
With a big improvement in their conditioning, they could easily move up a rating in your grading system.
But I agree with most here that a fit cuz adds heaps to our midfield ability...

i agree brown coat. most people on this site reckon all our players are "stars" and are just being held back by injuries or some mystery or afl conspiracy. i have been watching the saints week in week out. year in year out. and all these 'stars" just aint as good as some people like to fantasise.brown-coat wrote:This thread needs more retarded one line replies.

they arent just going to wake up one morning and have some weird metamomorphosis and dominate (kosi to tear it up in 09 etc etc) its so boring ive been hearing it for 5 years. we need help. we need recruits. we need young quality players. we need a lot of help. and some divine intervention.
And if Jack Steven was the great white hope that many posters on here think he is, he would have played by now...
While we've got blokes like Eddy and Geary... even Jones, in the mix for selection, we are going nowhere fast. They really do look like pretty ordinary players from what I've seen. In fact, I can't think of any decent new recruits since Sam Fisher...

cousins left unchecked will run and run and history suggests he runs anyway
he has the aura of king carey, he will give the younger players the idea they are bulletproof
create the arrogance of 2004 (not living in it just citing example)
