Just had a scope on the right knee. Simple OP - no stitches, just a clean up of a double cartlidge tear and a kneecap scrape.
Was laid up for near on two weeks, still swollen, cant run, and have only recently started riding my bike again.
Now I am an old bastard and dont heal like the youngens, but mine was a simple op - nothing like a full knee reco where you are immobile for a full 6 weeks before you even go near rehab.
I have a huge regard for footballers coming back from a knee reco and playing again. Look at Lenny and bj. Absolutely courageous and without fear.
To be honest I am suprised that there are more like Brooks who couldn't really come to terms with his injury. For anyone to bag Brooks because he was mentally stuffed after wrecking him knee hasn't the first clue about knee injuries.
Lance or James??

bit too far bob...all clubs have a merry-go-round of assistant coaches at the time of year
King is great tap ruckman but he can't move around the ground quickly.
His opponent can move into space and take an uncontested mark and other teams' coaches know it.
If King is in the clear and the kicker does not hit his target (King) a turnover is guaranteed. King can not do anything if the ball is below his waist.
On the other hand Gardiner when fit is more mobile and can contest the ball better below his waist but is not as good at taps.
Now the AFL has introduced 4 boundary umpires it is even harder on older ruckmen with the ball being thrown in before they can arrive.
Expect coaches to come up with tactics to slow down giving up the ball to the boundary umpire next year. - tossing the ball high with a long back swing as with returning the ball after a mark or free.
Also expect coaches to assign less ground for the ruckmen with tall forwards and defenders contesting more throw ins.
Kosi can be used in this role up forward and maybe Blake in defence.
Ruckmen sometimes appear over rated until you see an uncontested ruck.
That is where a ruckman becomes like a queen on the chess board.
The first requirement for any ruckman is to give sufficient competition to prevent the opposition ruckman dominating and to do so without giving away frees.
The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

I agree that M. Gardiner was shown to be more mobile than King and more able to present as a marking target accross the centre (and his kicking, whilst a little awkward to the eye was effective), where he did improving good work until injured.
King did get found out "keeping up" on the defensive side, but equally he rucked for the majority of games (say 70%?) so this told on his mobility.
St Kilda were best served when Gardiner was taking 55% and King 45%, with the occasional stint up forward looking for a mis-match grab.
Both King and M. Gardiner are experienced and know how to "fill the hole" defensively.
Kosi can take the forward ruck contests (or 3rd up?) depending on how far out from goal, because he still has to be a target once the ball is in possession.
You can not ruck Blake and particularly you can not ruck him in defence and against a recognised ruckman. Giving away 10cm and 15kg equals a certain goal against us. Just too big a risk. The defensive ruck work should be exclusively between M. Gardiner and King.

We were best served when they both played you say. I am not going to look up figures but how many times did they both play and how was our record and how many goals did they kick with a mismatch when they both played?

agreed...
we lost more games than won with both in the side
Don't wait for the light at the end of the tunnel to appear, run down there and light the bloody thing yourself!
Does anyone have a source for this news? Is it confirmed? Not on the club website at the mo but the Farren Ray trade and Lyon''s comments about it are.

sorry Ace but I reckon this is complete crap. King is quite good in contests. OK he's not going to catch fleet footed mids on the run, but I saw plenty of instances this year of King using his bulk and physical presence to advantage when the ball was in dispute. In close or in packs when the ball's in dispute his effort and presence is valuable.

yet there were many an instance where he was slow to get to the contest or work back a kick behind play. Anyone remember ottens marking uncontested from a shot from 45....
anyway if what was reported in the HS is correct, perhaps it's the other number 1 ruck who should be cut....
