Why do we need either. Havent we got Kosi, McEvoy and Blake as backups for the most overated position on the ground.
agreed, an absolute waste of a player or potential player on our list IMO
27 games in 5 seasons
2 decent games in two years for two years pay

you seriously want to go into a season with kings only back up kosi with a mac in development and blake pinch hits for 20 mins a game....
Kosi and mac are also a very long way away from being first ruck material. Happy to have one of rix or gardiner as our back up till mac develops in 1-2 years time (along with a rookie and another drafted ruckman).

so you would go into 2009 with king our only recognised ruckman. Kosi has struggled as a second ruck, let alone first, Mcenvoy still needs a couple of years to develop as a ruck. We go through 2008 with rix and MG as main back ups and now you want to cut both?
Strange.
btw it was always expected that we would not see the real results from mission until next year. No reason for gardiner not to be very fit. Finished the year playing well.....

Well Rix and MG had a huge impact this year. Yes I would rather go in with just the other 3 and get another young player but it doesnt matter what I think MG is there for another year.

I will translate it again, seeing you are obviously unable to read...
Sydney did not win a premiership wtih Everitt
Hawks did not win a premiership with Everitt
Port won with Lade and Brogan, one of the best ruck duos going....
Gardiner has played just 27 games in 5 years and just 9 in the past 2 years...
His body can't withstand AFL IMO and has just played 2 decent games in 2 years...
If you are suggesting that by signing Gardiner for another year has some capabilities of us winning a premiership surely you are joking, if you need a translator for that you have no hope IMO???

I reckon that's a fair assessment Solar. Still need a back-up for King and Kosi and with McEvoy still a way away, needed to keep at least one of them. You never know, Rix might also stay on the list. Our ruck division is still pretty thin, especially if King gets injured.
Don't have much faith that MG offers a lot of hope, but we don't have anyone else at the mo.

Ok,so you've explained the problem as you see it... so what's the solution, and if it were possible to get either of Warnock, Seaby or McIntosh, we wouldn't have done it?

sydney won a flag because jolly and ball were awesome around the packs and created heaps of goals. Same could be said of port. WCE was a force because the rucks gave their mids first use of it. Not sure where the whole everitt comment came from, thats a little left field. Kind of similar to having an argument about the importance of key forwards and suggesting that a key forward is not important because the hawks won without nathan thompson..... you get the point....
anyway I'm glad some on here would love to go into 2009 with one recognised ruckman in king, a couple of pinch hitters in blake and kosi and a 19 year old second year ruckman....
Not really clogging our list. If you think about it we will have 2 first rucks in king and gardiner, back ups in kosi and a second year mcenvoy. Plus pinch hitting in blake (a CHB) and a couple of rookies. Seems a pretty good set up. Draft or rookie another ruck, especially a tap ruck to compliment mcenvoy. Then we can re-address this after another year of development to bigmac and kosi.

No we obviously didn't want to trade our first round draft pick (even though the St Kilda web site states that we did by securing Farren Ray) for Warnock, Seaby or McIntosh..
But all I am saying is that Gardiner is not the answer and he will be lucky to play 9 games next year (he is getting older and only managed 9 this year).

The solution is simple. We have 3 backup ruckmen. We should have enough with those numbers. We dont need Rix and MG as one isnt good enough and the other is injured more than not. Dont think either Geelong, Dogs or Hawthorn had more than 4 ruckmen on their list this year dont understand why we need 5.

Both are NOT first ruck options ....
Gardiner is a waste of money, 9 games in two years and just how many do you think he will play next year, considering he is a year older...
I don't have a solution and that's up to the club, but again Gardiner is not the solution or a first ruck option and has never been really considered as one for years...
He just can't move and is unable to move around the ground IMO

who are our back up rucks?
kosi, macenvoy and LVR? you going to add a rookie or first year draftee to this?

Blake was my other one because IMO he is still our second best ruck option depending on our equirements down back next year. LVR will not be at the club next year you would think. Anyway like I said the top 3 sides didnt have more than 4 ruck options this year so why are we any different.

Not "Awesome Stuff" at all and shows where we are at as far as rucks go IMO...
I value rucks a great deal, and I did admire Gardiner in his day, but I really feel that his days are past him, more so with the great speed of the game.
I would gladly be the first to say I was wrong, but to me the re signing of him is not good news IMO

Why do we need either. Havent we got Kosi, McEvoy and Blake as backups for the most overated position on the ground.
Overrated.
Only forwards and people who have never played the game have that opinion.
The ruckman is the most important position on the ground!

Well I played and was a backman and a poor backman but I say unless they do something around the ground they are overated especially with the 4 boundary umpires next year. By the way if it was that important why did Hawthorn win the flag this year with what most people would consider 2 ordinary ruckmen.
