Subject: St Kilda Media Release: Robert Harvey

10th October 2008

ROBERT HARVEY ACCEPTS COACHING ROLE AT CARLTON

St Kilda legend Robert Harvey has accepted a coaching role with Carlton for the 2009 AFL season.

The 383 game champion retired this year after a career spanning three decades at the Saints in which he collected a pair of Brownlow Medals, four Best & Fairests and eight All-Australian selections among a plethora of other honours, cementing his place among the game’s all-time greats.

St Kilda CEO Archie Fraser said, “It is with a heavy heart but excitement and optimism for Robert that he becomes a Development Coach at Carlton from next season.

“Harvs will always be a favourite son of the Saints and while we did offer Robert a full time position at the Club next year, he decided to expand his experiences outside the Club after 21 outstanding years at the Saints. We wish him every success in his new role.â€

Crap, one of the best to ever play teaching Carlton's midfield...of Gibbs, Murphy, Judd...

Oh dear. Saints win a flag before these guys really get going...only a matter of time now with Harves on board.

VETERAN SAINT NOW A BLUE
Friday, October 10th, 2008 at 3:24 pmBY ANDREW LOWTHER

JUST weeks after he retired a St Kilda champion, Robert Harvey has begun his new football life by signing a contract that will see him in the navy blue next season.

Harvey, 37, will join Carlton as the Blues’ new development coach in 2009.

The appointment means the 383-game, two-time Brownlow medallist has snubbed St Kilda’s offer of a full-time coaching role at their club.

The Saints, however, have been quick to wish Harvey well in his new role.

“It is with a heavy heart but excitement and optimism for Robert that he becomes a development coach at Carlton from next season,â€

bit extreme.....
It's not as if is blasphemus for him to do it.

I dont mind. It's sad, but he can go off and better his credentials then come back, he will be a St.Kilda boy until the day he dies.

He's given this club so much, if he opted to become Satan's assistant for Hell FC, I'd have given him my blessing.

All the best Harves. Hopefully you can learn some tricks and grow into a tremendous off-field type...before coming back.

For all of you going to have a crack at him, don't forget, SOS is our defensive coach ;)

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

While none of us can begrudge the great man a coaching job at another club it's still a bitter pill to swallow.
Of course he's gaining experience to come back home one day but it is difficult to see him in a Carlton shirt.

The same could be said for Carlton fans seeing Silvagni with us I assume.

Hopefully this is a stepping stone and learning experience for the great man, and he is back at the club in the near future.

All the best in the new role Banger.

This of you who reckon that our favourite son should not be going to Carlton just stop and think... We've had Carlton's favourite son at St Kilda for 2 years now!!

Good luck Rob, you've earned the right to do whatever you want to in footy - I hope you enjoy every success at Carlton - just not against us!

Yeah, but Harvs is going in to the Blues matrix, SOS took the other pill and now fights for good. I'd have preferred he took a job at Collingwood!

Favourite son who wasn't welcomed back at the club?

SOS screwed his club by taking under-the-table payments and then ratting on them.

Please don't compare him to Robert Harvey.

:-D

I know how highly reguarded Sir Robert is held around here (just look at the avatars) and i know how much you guys hate Carlton, so this must be a huge punch in the guts for ya.

Having said that, i think most people have handled it pretty well.

You wont find many Carlton people complaining about the appointment.

Word of advice: Do not turn your back on him. He will forever be known as perhaps the greatest Saints player ever to pull on a cross, so the fact that he has chosen to further his career at Carlton doesn't change that fact.

BTW, whenever you're done with SOS, we'll take him back. ;-)

good luck to him. won't hurt him to look outside of st kilda for a while if he wishes to further his football experience.

he'll bring honesty and incorruptability to carlton ... a foreign concept to them.
