Agreed. But it's given me a chance to dream of Sidebottom in a Saints jumper again, and that's a very comforting dream.derby Street wrote:Seems too good to be true.

Sorry to go against the consensus here, but the whole idea sucks IMO + particularly in relation to X - and I certainly wouldn't be jumping for joy if it happens: especially if we end up with O'Keefe at the end of it all.
Perhaps there's something about the relationship between Raph and X that I don't know. But Raph now looks like he's going to come good big time after struggling with separation from his family, injury, serious illness and the death of his dad. And we are going to separate him from his brother (according to one rumour, send him to play in another city) ???!!!!
And both X and Gwilt can kick straight and are relatively quick: two elements with whic we are not over-endowed in our midfield/half forward line.
And it's more than likely that both have their best football ahead of them. Is this true of O'Keefe?

i meant, how people say "if we trade x we will regret it, blah blah blah,
truth is he is as much of a list clogger as M.G,
im jsut sick of everyone having a cry about trading players who have not played anywhere near the potential they have
kosi and x main ones,
we are NEVER going to win a flag if we keep persisting with these players
HOPING! their bodies will come right.

Get your point and agree. It's very easy to get "emotionally" attached to the players in your team. My issue is that I think X is an exception. I am not sure he has had a chance to get his body right. The new fitness team said it might take 2 years for a real base to build. X obviously is prone to injury and maybe needs a little longer to develop that base.saintjake wrote:true, sorry, wrong choice of words.fingers wrote:Look beyond potential?? Not sure - of course I am only speculating.
The real feeling in my gut is that these guys will do a freaking Guerra and win a premiership somewhere else.

Fair enough. So we would end up with pick 11 and 13 - no X and no Gwilt.
Still doesn't sit right for me. Not sure why. I guess Gwilt was a JB roughie wasn't he?
Who the FK knows ????

would be like me getting plucked from my local ones this year.
so i think he has done amzaingly well.
no TAC cup.
still has a lot to learn, and along way to go.
X has been in reverse for years.

Ask yourselves this question; Is it better to wait until 2.00pm tomorrow before offering up opinions on this? !!
the frustration just boiled over tonight.
im looking at it with 16 year old eyes,
sick of watching his team come so close, but never close enought
and STILL not relising we have got that close, on the back of a few players
and if we jsut put our dick back on grew some balls and traded our second string players, we could get that extra 20% we need.

By tomorrow morning I predict we'll just have moved onto the next bogus trade week rumour. When all is said and done, I still expect us to have been non-players in trade week.Eastern wrote:Ask yourselves this question; Is it better to wait until 2.00pm tomorrow before offering up opinions on this? !!
Cut us a little slack. Trade week has always been slow, and this one has been particularly dull. Even just the hint of a nibble has us circling for the kill.
Yeah nah pleasing positive

posted this in the other X clarke thread, though may as well repeat it here...
Whilst i understand that footy is a tough business, and you cant afford to keep players who just can't cut it, I would be quite disappointed if Xavier was trading.
I understand that he's had constant injuries, X has so many positives...
Xavier has shown very good disposal skills (unlike some), great pace, and despite his frail body, a tenacity at the ball which is exciting to watch and i believe, lifts his teammates.
Why trade a young-ish fast, talented midfielder, when we we're being critcised for lacking midfield pace and depth?
Plus, whilst i know winning football games comes first, but Xavier is also a leading contributor withthe Saints Community Programs aswell as his own Aboriginal Youth Guidance (i think?) initiative.
What a fantastic role model for younger football players.
I know it's a tough business, but i hope he stays.
"Strength through loyalty"...
... does that apply with supporters and players? obvious not here.
He's been a Saint for 6-ish years now.
Don't be so quick to sell him out for some number in a draft FFS.
