NEW asst coach ??????? !!
So Anthony Rock has returned to North. Good luck to him. We have more pressing matters to deal with, one of those being to replace him on our coaching panel.
So far names that have sprung up are;
Nathan Buckley
Brian Royal
I like the idea of someone coming into the group who has tasted premiership success. I also like the idea of someone recently out of the game. So, we need to look at former Bris, Port, Syd, WCE players
Craig McRae, Sean Hart, Drew Banfield, ?? Wilson (Port), Chris and Brad Scott should all be looked at. Any others? There must be plenty
I believe we should adopt the attitude of getting the BEST, not just the best available !!

Harves must surely be employed in a role with the club.
About time we actually kept a champion, especially this one, in an official role within the club.
But maybe give the bloke a year off, just being a "pre-season" and "hard-training" coach for now.
I reckon the great man has well and truly earnt it.

Maybe he wants out for a while?
The lid is off after Round 2! Enjoy the journey, coz you just don't know where we'll end up. Live for today and seize the moment.

Exactly, leave him alone.
I think he has suffered enough. If he wants to come back to the club he loves and endure it all again it should be on his terms and no one elses. We as a whole club owe him big time, let's not pressure him.

Even Danielle said he'll probably be there for the preseason.WayneJudson42 wrote:Surely?Iceman234 wrote:Harves must surely be employed in a role with the club.

What the F*** is wrong with our most favourite son, who is a LEGEND of not just us, but every other team, wanting to spend time with us?
Would it be a bad thing if our record game holder actually wanted to become a mentor to our young guys, or wanted to be an assistant coach, or just wanted to be involved still in the workplace he was involved with for so long?
I personally think it would be a great boost for our younger blokes if Harves stayed with the club in some capacity.
Let's not pressure him - pfffffft.
The man is St Kilda, there is no pressure.
Fan pressure will not play a part in it.
Where does this thought process come from, that if you've played x amount of games at a club you shouldn't go there as a coach.
This is the greatest, most freakish player we will see in this current generation.
Keep him in any capacity at the Saints.
At all cost.

BJ posesses all those ingredients - including team mate frustration and self anger in pursuit of perfection and Buckley was just as driven.
They both kick allright too.
Buckley would be an awesome get but hard to see it.

The idea of having Harves around is worthwhile, but I'm not sure having him in a mid-field coaching role is the go. Too close to the group I reckon.
My feeling is that it would be better to have some fresh eyes and ideas to work with our mids.
Love the idea of Buckley or a quality player with recent playing experience.
Would cost a large fortune but would fit right in.Teflon wrote:ironically he reminds me of Buckley.Armoooo wrote:How exciting is the prospect of BJ being trained under Buckley...Teflon wrote:Geez Buckley would be nice.....

Couldn't stand him as a player (because he didn't play for us).
Fantastic media commentator and brilliant reader of the play.
Highlight of this season was Ox saying one thing which wouldn't eventuate, then Bucks saying a different option which would be almost instantaneously be actioned on.
Watched this closely throughout the year and without doubt Bucks has it as a coach.
What grunt he could teach this list.
I've never said as a mid coach.st.byron wrote:Iceman234 wrote:

But it's about time we kept a legend, especially this one, around in some capacity.
Junior midfield mentor sounds like a good role.

agree it would be good to have him at the club in some role. Maybe when he's had a bit of space and the time's right for him and the club. Who knows when that might be? Would love to have him around the Saints though. Maybe a bit sentimental, but he is an out and out quality individual.
