Revamp our club song
I know it has probably been suggested in the past but we need to rethink our song and creative minds out there.
We still keep the tune and "oh when the saints go marching in" but we need something that is a little more inspiring.
Need to say something about the spirit of the club, the players and the supporters.
It is not the worst song, the tune is ok but the words are a little lame.

Oh when the Saints
Go marching in
Oh when the Saints
Go marching in
How I want to be down at Seaford
When the Saints go marching in.
(repeat 15 times).

This one works quite well and captures the tooth-gnashing/wrist slashing vibe here after a loss.
"Sainted Love"
(after
Sometimes I feel I've got to
Run away I've got to
Get away
From the pain that you drive into the heart of me
The love we share
Seems to go nowhere
And I've lost my light
For I toss and turn I can't sleep at night
(chorus)
Once I ran to you (I ran)
Now I'll run from you
This sainted love you've given
I give you all a boy could give you
Take my tears and that's not nearly all
Oh...sainted love
Sainted love
Or maybe not.

It just needs a verse with appropriate footy related words to follow the 4 basic line chorus , which can be repeated at the end instead of just repeating the same thing over ..if you get my drift
This verse stuck between these 2 choruses doesnt necessarily have to be the same tune.
eg
Oh when the Saints Go marching in
Oh when the Saints go marching in
How I want to be at St Kilda
When....
then for eg lets say to the tune of the popular "We are Australian"...
We are proud, and we are loyal and .....(for all our suffering fans)
...........
.....
...we are united, we are the St Kilda Saints...
Oh when the Saints, go marching in ....
or a verse jammed between to the tune of Up There Cazaly"....
Up there st Kilda, show em your might
Up there for courage, Red Black And White
Up there St Kilda in there and fight
Wee'll give it our best shot, the flags in our sight!
i'm no poet lauriette and someone can come up with more appropriate verse, but I recon " When the Saints" is great it just needs embellishing a tad by simply adding a verse
GOSAINTS!

They already tried the second verse aspect a few years back. Went down like a lead balloon if anyone remembers. About as well known as the second verse of Advance Australia Fair.starsign wrote:It just needs a verse with appropriate footy related words to follow the 4 basic line chorus , which can be repeated at the end instead of just repeating the same thing over ..if you get my drift

Song Played at Moorabbin
The best version ever was the one that they used to play at moorbbin when we still played there...it has a lines like:
let's get 'em on the run
we're not our here for fun
and others like:
we'll chase em when they're hot
hit em when there not
and we're loyal to our mates
cause we're the saints
Oh when the saints go marchin in..
Oh when the saints go march.........
and so on
I used to love that version when we were still playing at moorabbin, should bring it back but just change the 'at moorabbin' to 'with st. kilda' and all the rest of the song is fine

When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss

I thought that verse went more like
We'll hit 'em nice and hard
Make 'em drop their guard.
and we're loyal to our mates
'cause we're the Saints.
But agree - it was a classic version.
Yes bring it back.
Perhaps with an updated verse for the new century.
Perhaps a line about Harvey ?

Man, it's the 2nd verse of the national anthem! I was just being a smartass RE: st nick's comment on how nobody knows the words to the second verse! Sort of proves his point...Saints Premiers 2008 wrote:leave itTrue Blue Sainter wrote:Beneath our radiant Southern Crossst_nick wrote:They already tried the second verse aspect a few years back.
