The way it reads to me the team who's nominated him have to use their next available pick after the lowest bid from any other club.
If we say first round Dogs must use first round. If they finished last they would have to use pick one as they finished 3rd they use pick 14.
So if the dogs were willing to use their first round pick on him, could they trade pick 14 to Hawks for pick 16 and a real depth player?

This is a bad example so lets just say the dogs came last and they wanted Cordy but they knew that we were willing to use our first rounder to pick him up, does this mean that the dogs could trade pick 1 for pick 16 and a very good player and then use that pick 16 on Cordy (assuming Cordy was good enough to give up a number 1 draft pick for).

Either way it seems to me to be very easily manipulated, does this have to go through before trade week? that is the only way I can see it working...

It's a worry...

Please, let's not potentially waste a first round pick on another ruckman that will be hit or miss. I thought it was blaringly obvious through the finals in what we lacked???
This game is about midfielders, fast, skilled midfielders. We get as many as them as WE POSSIBLY CAN!!! And when we think we have enough that will take us to a premiership chance,we recruit some more!!! Then we worry about big loping unskilled overrated ruckman.

Who's Hawthron ruckman again? And Geelong lost two games for the year with a retard as a ruckman....stuff the ruckman get midfielders FFS!

Thats why what you suggested cannot be done because these guys are bidded for this week I believe.

Friday, October 3 (2pm) -- Father / son nominations lodged with AFL.

Monday October 6 (10am) -- Father / son bidding meeting (Telstra Dome). <----- I presume right before trades.

Eade also said the club was preparing to use their first round pick, No.14, to snare young ruck prospect Ayce Cordy as a father-son selection.

No, that pick becomes locked in and untradeable.

It smells a bit like a positioning ploy to me .. ie we've forced the dogs to commit their first round draft pick .... a bit like the King vs Blake deal at Geelong - which was going to be a win - win for us.

If thats the case, then it would appear we may finally have some shrewd wheelers and dealers behind the scenes.

If swans take Cordy @12 then Sidebottom to St.K ?

Post: # 657846Post Megamaguire »

Heard that Roos eyeing off Cordy too and they can take him at 12 if dogs don't nominate him for 14. Looking at phantom draft i noticed sidebottom pencilled in @ 12. A tough midfielder/ defender might be what Rossi is really after.

Ah the intrigue.

Chook,
this is Dave's Phantom Draft. Dave is a Pie man and has Yarran going to us @ P.13

This is my first go at a phantom draft, only doing the top 20. Don't forget things can change pretty quick in trade week, so this is just a rough idea to start with.
1. Melbourne- Daniel Rich. Best kid in the draft. Melbourne would be crazy to let him get past them.
2. West Coast- Nicolas Natanui. 2nd best kid, WCE need a back up for Cox.
3. Fremantle- Jack Watts. Freo need a nother tall forward to help Pavlich. Best one in draft.
4. Port Adel.- Hamish Hartlett. Midfielder/forward is a SA. boy and they wanted Didak, so this kid could fit in well.
5. Essendon- Jack Ziebell. Bombers need midfielders more than talls, Ziebell is a good fit.
6. Carlton- Michael Hurley. Tall backman that the Blues need. Best tall back in draft. AA under 18 fullback.
7. Brisbane- Jordan Lisle. Key position player, can play forward or back, was AA under 18 CHB.
8. Richmond- Tyrone Vickery. 2nd best Ruck in the draft, Tigers need a ruckman more than a tall forward, I think.
9. North- Shaun McKernan. Key forward/ruck, can replace Thompson.
10. Adelaide- Lewis Johnston. SA. boy who was AA under 18 CHF, but might fit into the Crows back line as well.
11. Collingwood- Mitch Robinson. Tall, muture ball magnet. Just what we need and could play next year.
12. Swans- Steele Sidebottom. Hard at it midfielder/defender, would learn a lot under Kirk and co and later replace Kirk.
13. St.Kilda- Chris Yarran. Medium forward who kicks goals and can take a mark on the lead. Good fit with Riewoldt/Kosi/Milne.
14. Bulldogs- Ayce Cordy. Father/Son pick, Word is that the Swans will take him at 12 if Bulldogs pass on him.
15. Geelong- Jackson Trengrove. Skinny tall, who could replace Harley/Scarlett in a few years.
16. Hawthorn- Sam Blease. Fast midfielder with a good kick. If there's no really good key backs left, then Hawks should go for Blease.
17. Melbourne- Aaron Cornelius. Tall forwards. The Dees need them.
18. West Coast- Tom Swift. Wa. boy who has had injuries, but has also been compared to J Selwood. WCE will grab him if they miss out on Rich at 2.
19. Melbourne- David Zaharakis. Fast midfielder who wins plenty of the ball, would fit the Dees midfield.
20.West coast- Matthew DeBoer. Another ball magnet the Eagles will go after if they don't get Rich.
So what do you think? Can you do any better at this stage?
Feel free to add to Dave's view of the draft..

So St Kilda drafts him with pick 13. The next 2 years St Kilda puts development time into the kid. Then he refuses to sign a new contract and goes into the pre-season draft making it clear to all and sundry that he wants to be dog. Woof !
Yet another high draft pick wasted trying to get a ruckman - Brooks, Ackland, McEvoy

Chill out.
I'm sure all we've done is try and force WB to use their first round pick on him.

In all teh years since the draft ahs been in, how many times have you seen a Club actually declare who tehy are going to take with a pick other than #1?
In fact, how many times has the Club with first pick announced who they were going to draft?

The only time I can remember is when WCE 'bluffed' us out of Judd by letting everyone know that they would not pick him but would take Luke Ball.
So why would we now with our pick #13?

Sorry if someone has posted this already...

WESTERN Bulldogs-bound ruck prospect Ayce Cordy is the only player who has nominated for November's AFL Draft under the father-son rule.

The Bulldogs have already committed to drafting 202cm Cordy, whose father Brian played 124 games for the Bulldogs during the 1980s.

The Dogs have acknowledged they will most likely have to use their first round draft pick, No.14 overall, to secure him at Monday's bidding session.

With other clubs having indicated they believe Cordy is worth a first round pick, the Bulldogs have to use their next selection in the draft order after the highest bidder.

yes a bit rough to put McEvoy in the same basket as Brooks and Ackland. Still a developing kid and needs to be given time to grow into the game at senior level.

Confirmed on Sen, Dogs to take him with their first round pick after we nominated to take him with ours. Looks like Lyon wants another ruckman as a priority

Common sense, (which means I'm probably wrong!!) would say that pick 14 has already been used to secure Cordy and therefore cannot be traded.

Not necessarily.
It could very well be that Lyon (and the list management people) 'knew' that WB would use thir first pick (#14) if pushed and decided to 'push' them into it by nominating we would use our pick #13 on him.

All that has been achieved is that WB cannot pick up another player with their pick #14 and use a much later pick on Cordy.
It means that there is 1 more player avaialble for us to choose from with our 2nd and 3rd round picks.
Good and astute work by all those involved at the Saints.
