The club's senior-most media advisor requested we do it. We care about the club, which is why we took it down.

There's a difference between monitoring and censoring.

Saintscentral, AFAIAC, is a place for the sheep to bah-bah their love of the club.

This, I hope, is a hub of discussion for the betterment of the club, not mindless adoratian.

I support the move to take it down, but equally, the club seldom makes such requests, so you have to take it seriously when they do and make a call accordingly.
You should read those threads a little more closely...

Exactly right. the club didnt MAKE us do anything. It was requested, and the request was complied with. All mods are in agreeance on the topic and thats the end of it.

If this was to be a regular occurance... well, it wouldnt.

All of us care too much about this place to let it become some corporate, sanctioned, censored environment.

Glad it's gone. Good call and had I been moderating the forum, I would have hidden the thread immediately until it was confirmed. It is just too easy to slander someone without providing hard evidence to back it up. You can bet your bottom dollar that if there was something in it, the likes of Hutchy would have been spreading it like wildfire and it would have made the evening news!

I believe we have quite a few supporters from other clubs pretending to be St Kilda supporters after reading this thread! The way some have behaved, I am appalled and believe the club can do just fine without your 'support'.

Actually I did. There is no such thing as "Freedom of Speech" on a forum. It is dictated by the moderators what can and cant posted at any time.

All this posturing and mock indignation is really quite amusing.

Free speech Does every "newsworthy" story get published by the papers? How many TV news stories make it to air without footage?

Face it - we are kept in the dark and occasionally a bit of info is thrown our way. The vast majority is never in the public forum.

Mods did the right thing. Anybody bleating about free speech and Zimbabwe and Communists are being unduely OTT and suffering from acute hyperbole.

I dont think the Club have any problem with discussion on this Forum. What they would have a problem with is wild speculation, half-truths and exaggerations being reported as fact by the mainstream media.

God, anyone who can draw comparisins with communist China really needs to have a good hard look at themselves I reckon.

Its called brand protection and 99.99999% companies out there do it , to a far greater degree than AFL Clubs too... ask the employee at my work who was told to take down a blog online becuase he stated who he worked for then proceeded to hang shyte on the place for 3-4 paragraphs. Took about a day to get back to a Manager.

Noone demanded that anything be removed from this site. It was requested, and very amiably and pleasantly done too. In the past, other requests have been politely declined and the Club have understood that 100% of the time.

Why build walls between us and the Club just for the sake of a bit of bluster about "sticking up for your rights bruvva" ?

Taking my mods hat off for a moment, NONE of this would have happened if somneone hadnt decided to bignote themselves by posting the OP in the first place. Its just a personal opinion, but I cannot for the life of me see how a Saints fan would want to pour rocket fuel on any incident of this type, exaggerated or 100% accurate , by talking all about it on a public Forum (and thats what this is, not a secret society for Saints fans!). To me its akin to dobbing in your mate to the police cos you saw him not wearing a seat belt. Thats just my personal take on it

Thanks to those who supported our actions. As N1ck stated, noone is going to or wants to turn Saintsational into a bland mouthpiece for the Club. No-one wants that, including the Club themselves.

Why doesn't the footballer take out his aggro on the footy field instead of the pub. What is it with drinking piss and playing footy? I just don't get the fact that some players need to get smashed when they go out. Get the drinking mentality out of sport and you may solve the problem
