Robin Nahas - Should we go for him?
Speed freak, great skills, great endurance is now putting on enough muscle to lay a few tackles and takes leasd up marks
Ring a bell to what we need? does to me... Played on him a few years ago now was a freak and has only improved every year.
Downside is obviously the kid is not big but you don't have to be if you play the kind of game he does ala Lovett, Cyril, Davey.
Also has alot of Daniel Giansiracusa not just his looks but also about his game. Has just won the 2008 "Fothergill / Round" Medal for the most promising young player in the VFL at the JJ Liston Trophy count.
For those of you who don't know he's a small forward 175cm about 68kg's now kicked 49 goals as a small forward, 21 pos. ave. Watched a 4 or 5 so games this year he has played in and looks to be afl standard IMO..Looks a class act now...
He is definately better than our 'fringe depth players' so why not?
He's only 21, 22 next year... I think we must take a punt...
thoughts?

I'd take a gamble on him for your reasons above.
He seems nonchalant in what he is doing and goes about his business the right way.
Although he is a steadfast Port man and i don't know whether he has been chased by an AFL club in the past, but i doubt he would sign. He is already a Cult hero at the borough and loves the club.
Also i think maybe his height and capacity to put on more bulk would impeed him and i just don't think he has the body size to play AFL brilliantly.
But who knows ...

sorry he has kicked 49 goals this season ammended*
If he was offered aan AFL contract there is no way he wouldn't take it...
Personally with my encounters with him i'm not too fond of him so maybe the nonchalante is because of his attitude but AFL would be the best way to turn him into a professional... I think he is far better than our depth and would slot into our team as a quick lead up player... he's unbelieavbly quick and a player like that is never muscle bound

So we don't need a speed freak? we are one of the slowest teams in the comp...You never explain... why wouldn't he be any use to us? can pla yforward flank and can lead up for a mark because he's so quick no one can go with him... will mark on the lead if it's kicked right....plugger66 wrote:Unless he grows and can become a medium marking forward he will not be any use to us.
He's a St Kilda nightmare we haven't been able to match up on any quick forwards...About time we had one not just milne who although had an alright year needs some help... Milne in the midfield is very ordinary Nahas can add speed every now and then and will only put more and more muscle on with an AFL pre season

Isnt he a small forward or is he an onballer. From what is written he seems like a small forward. Dont we have Milne and Schneider in these positions. No way we can have 3 of that kind and the other 2 are natural forwards.mightysainters wrote:So we don't need a speed freak? we are one of the slowest teams in the comp...plugger66 wrote:Unless he grows and can become a medium marking forward he will not be any use to us.

With an AFL pre season which will give hima bit more bulk could well play off a wing... As I said Cyril (who will eventually play midfield), Davey... small forward who can be an impact player in the midfield with his pace. Leon Davis is another example who does it...BTW as it says averages about 21 possies so plays up the ground too
Dont know this guy at all but comparing him to the other 2 seems a bit unreal. He has obviously been in the system for a few years and no one has grabbed him.mightysainters wrote:With an AFL pre season which will give hima bit more bulk could well play off a wing... Talked up by the commentators before the game.
Quick we must get him...
Pretty much done zilch tonight and sitting down having a rest right now.
Quick sign him up.

Nah, not after all the crap threads about who we need to get and who we need to cut recently.plugger66 wrote:Please have one of these when you say that.Iceman234 wrote:Talked up by the commentators before the game.

See sRr's thread re our "new" team and you'll see why. It sums it up perfectly.
Gee, everyone's a possibility.

He isn't that bad. He is quite the player at VFL level, but just doesn't have the body for the AFL.
Smaller players have the ability to put on the bulk, but some players like Nahas are just don't.

So many premature evaluators on here with pre-trade period moisture.
Anyone who gets talked up or kicks a few goals in any comp from Albany districts to the thirds of the Riddell District finals is getting a look in on here at the moment.
It's hilarious. I love that thread by sRr, and also the comments by Archie.
I'll put my current bank balance on the fact Nahas won't get picked up in the AFL. (Mind you that would leave someone paying my debts but you know what I mean)
I know he's been good this year, I do follow the VFL also, but seriously the amount of threads about our "recruits" has me in fits of laughter recently.mightysainters wrote:He has been okay... he's been great this year... wow you've seen half a game iceman... you must really know ur stuff
I hadn't seen a thread about Nahas all year until he got talked up by the ABC commentators before the game.
All of a sudden....

maybe it's because all year saints have been playing... You see the weekend saints don't play possible recruits get brought up... I didn't see the first 10 minutes so i didnt hear the before the game, he's had a great year not a good year and has the traits we need.... That goal he just kicked highlights what we're missing speed and a bit of a spark
