Would you take Scott West?

Post: # 652686Post saintsrus »

Lets say he wanted to keep playing (by all reports he does) and can get his body right ala MG but ready to go Round one 2009.

Is he worth the risk? Id say yes, this guys a champion and you never write them off, guess its a matter what ross wants and money etc

I feel sad about players like this, but we're not a charity service. For all we know he may well poll heavy Brownlow votes in his final year or two...but for us it isn't worth the risk. We've been there and done that. I wish him all the best finding another club and playing out what he has left of his career. Good luck Scotty.

he's been shabbily treated by the club he served so well for so many years, but no.

we've got to keep the kids coming through.

constant renewal is the way to go.

though we've got a solid core, it's starting to look a bit stale and in need of rejuvenation.

no more topping up or hasbeens.

Why shabbily????

The Dogs gave him all of this year to see if he could not......

There is only so long you can tie upa spot on your list if you want to bea GF team.

West's body is past it...he gt one extra year for "sentiment"....and that is more than enough.

many many players want to play on beyond their time...and Clubs need to be firm when the time has come.

For West it has.

I don't blame him for wanting to play on...but..............

Why shabbily????
i've no problem with the decision itself but i saw him interviewed a couple of weeks ago and he was still hopeful of playing on. genuinely keen about his future.

the club should have let him know earlier that he didn't feature in their plans instead of letting him hang on to false hopes.

perhaps they didn't have the balls to tell him, but they should have. you have to be cruel to be kind sometimes.

a champion of their club deserved more respect, i thought.

very poorly handled and thank heavens we let our veteran champion harvey finish with his dignity intact.

HERALD SUN

SCOTT West made an emotional exit from AFL football yesterday. The 324-game veteran was told he was not part of the Western Bulldogs' plans for the future.

Witnesses said the 33-year-old was visibly upset as he left Whitten Oval.

Although West had sensed he was in trouble, the reality of the situation hit him like a sledgehammer.

The Dogs are poised to hold a media conference today to celebrate West's career and clarify the decision.

They hope West, a seven-time best-and-fairest winner, will attend. But West was not returning calls from the Bulldogs or the Herald Sun last night.

Your not serious are you? I nearly fell off my chair when I read the title of this thread!!! You would be better off getting Hamil back into our side. They have similar problems (i.e. degenerative knee).

Don't argue with an idiot - people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

I do get your point, dude - a tough in and under player - but even if he were a few years younger I'm not sure it's really what we need. We need speed.

As an assistant coach? In a heartbeat!!!!!! I'd also love to see Harves go to the AIS for a while as Buckley and Voss have done, and to come back to us as a development coach TAILOR-MADE for the job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 years ago - in a second
now - not in a thousand years
Unfortunatly his best is behind him and he has been a casualty of a "youth push". Great player in his prime and would be valuable as an assistant coach or speclaist midfield coach

My own personal view is that unless they could reasonably be expected to play 100 games for us, don't touch them.
