Next year endeavour to recruit a strong left footed forward.

With the focus on Roo, put Dal at the feet of this forward to rove, will be interesting to see who wants to tag him down there.

Would have been nice to see if this woulda worked with Gehrig the forward.

Overrated by whom? Tim Watson, who has picked him for Brownlow medallist ever year since he started? Other media dummies who never watch the game, just look at the stats? Stupid posters with nothing else to say?

He is an excellent player, not the greatest of all time, nor the fastest, the toughest, the best mark, or whatever. What he can do is run and kick - both feet - a skill usually banned at St Kilda. Lo and behold, opposition teams have figured this out and put their best tagger on him every week. This is why his last quarters are always his best, when the tagger is a bit tired. Exactly the same thing happened when Robert Harvey was his age. We know what Harvey had to do to overcome the problem. Getting fitter than the fittest is no easy task. Other teams have players with pride too.

I'm glad he plays for us.

If he isnt going to run HARD, Id prefer to see him play as much inside as humanly possible. On song, he has the ability to look like he is moving in slow motion and has all the time in the world in tight crowded quarters. In 04,05 he would consistantly do this. Trade = no for mine. However, another wasted year next year and I would be changing my mind.

its funny the people who think Dal is over raterd must also under rate the ability of players like Ling .... the fact is Dal is good but Ling is just better and when Ling is given a job to cut out the effectiveness of a player i dont care who it is Ling 9/10 makes his opponent look ordinary so befor you start saying how bad Dal is look at how good his opponent is

good idea, but why does it have to be a left-footer?

You need to be rated before you can be overated

HAsn't played on Ling all year, has he?

Gotta get fitter and learn to wear down taggers.

The lid is off after Round 2! Enjoy the journey, coz you just don't know where we'll end up. Live for today and seize the moment.

He shouldn't be overrated....I think he is still being judged on '04/'05 and his potential.
He may have been crook but he is out there now and doesn't work anywhere hard enough for the team.
As mentioned earlier he is happy to cruise.
Watched him on Sunday - at one stage stands 5-10 metres off a man, who ended up being the target for a kick, Dal rolled onto the next contest and again 'his' man was kicked to...it then happened again.
He stands off them....either waiting for a turnover that doesn't happen and/or payong no respect...disrespecting his team mates in my view.

Good player when the team is firing....potentially better if he pulls a finger out, runs fwd and doesn't get sheep-dog Craig Bradley kicks in the back half!
Reckon he has himself as his skipper in Dream Team - that's why he kicks in (to himself)

I've heard this so many times but it just doesnt stack up in reality
Ling had 24 touches and 1 goal,
Ablett 34 and 1 goal
Bartel 34 and 2 goals
Corey 32 and 7 inside 50's
Selwood 21 and 4 inside 50's
Who protects the geelong onballers?
The reality is THEY get in there do the hard stuff and RUN hard

good idea, but why does it have to be a left-footer?

Because we already have the big right footers in our forward line to patrol the left side of the 50 (Roo and/or Kosi) so we need someone to be able to lead to the right and actually have a reasonable chance of nailing the goal from that side like Fraser.

If you want to go and poach a left-footer go and see Hawthorn. I reckon they've got a plethora of them down there, with the majority of them being raking kicks!

There's one big difference between Dal and the four above mentioned players.
All four are more than capable of getting there own footy, unfortunately Dal is and always will be a good outside player who relies on others to get the ball to him.

Dal really misses the work done by Powell and Thompson, Ball and Hayes are still there but we lose a bit when they're resting, where as the void was always filled by Thommo and Powelly.

All sides have these type of players, and thats why I'd keep Dal if a Kerr or Cousins happens to land on our doorstep.
