Dal Santo: is he overrated?
Have been a fan of Nicks for a long time, but over the last season he has let himself down and the team down,no doubt he has lots of ability but when its his time to put his body on the line i dont think he does, not sure he is happy with the coach but still he needs to just look across and watch the way Lenny and Bally(WHEN HE PLAYS) play they are both 100 per cent comitted to the cause.
Just hope he can be more desperate against the pies.

he has been sick, havent you seen he has lost so much weight due to it.
he will be back better then ever next year so will KOSI!.
hate how we bag our players cause they have some bad games.
they will remain at the stkilda football club next year, they are our future,

And who do you put back?rodgerfox wrote:It depends on how you rate him.
He's not playing well. However, I don't believe he's being coached well.
He should play forward of the centre - not in the back half.

I don't know that it really matters. Dal hasn't been offering much anyway.WayneJudson42 wrote:And who do you put back?rodgerfox wrote:It depends on how you rate him.

One would think that the logic is to have Dal and BJ as your quaterbacks.rodgerfox wrote:I don't know that it really matters. Dal hasn't been offering much anyway.WayneJudson42 wrote:And who do you put back?rodgerfox wrote:It depends on how you rate him.

If he hasn't been giving much then, you have ask why. If your not prepared to play where the coach wants you to, then something is amiss with his attitude.
If he doesn't mind, then there is another problem. If his attitude ain't right, it won't matter where you play him.
If the coach needs him down back, then he should sacrafice for the team IMO. surely if we had another option, he'd play fwd.
As we saw on Subday, if delivery is sh!t, it won't matter who's up fwd.
Do you drop back Raph... Gwilt??? X??? Whoelse do we have to provide run from the backline?

I'd more sway towards Gram & Goddard.WayneJudson42 wrote:One would think that the logic is to have Dal and BJ as your quaterbacks.
Dal is a great kick, but doesn't take many risks.
Gram and BJ have a thumping boot on them and are willing to kick the ball long to a contest.
But to break them down a little bit more;
Gram - A running QB
Goddard - A passing QB

I just dont get this thinking that he plays down back, I have never seen NDS line up in the backline.rodgerfox wrote:It depends on how you rate him.

He is an onballer and always lines up in the center.
The problem with NDS is he has become an easy possession link man outside receiver. Now follow me with this one, and if you like get his tapes out and watch his game. He lines up in the centerline, then rolls the dice and tends to try to lose his opposite number in the back half. He just doesnt work hard enough on the rebound to hurt his opponent.
In the first quarter alone, how many times did you see Ling in the geelong forward line compared to vice versa. The perfect example is NDS kicking in after a point and Ling standing the mark...
To say he is not being coached well, is a joke. That would be like saying that Lyon stops Harvey, Hayes, Ball, Montagna running hard through the center to pass the ball to the forwards. It just DOESNT happen, its about how hard those guys work in comparison to NDS.

Dal at his best is outstanding........awesome.....
He is potentially an elite player...but is not.
At his worst he is quiet....though still better than many.
The problem for the Saints is that simply he does not play near, or at his best often enough.
No player...not even Gablett plays at their best every week.
But Dal needs to play well more often.
He should be an A-grade mid...but is presentlya B-grade mid.

Why do some posters think that Lyon dropped Dal????
Most likely becuase he was not working hard enough and do all the running and team things.
Anyone that has watched the Saints games this year will have seen Dal at times just "cruising" rather than running hard.
How often do you see Dal running hard like Banger has...to get to contests...to support...and then to take off upfield to create space.?
Answer: Not often enough.
Dal does it sometimes..and at other times goes missing.
What makes exceptional midfield players...is exceptional attitudes to keep pushing themselves.

dals not overated hes out of form!
needs to have a hard look at himself over the summer and decide whether he wants to become elite or not.
he has the ability but not the hunger or work ethic required.
dal should have a look at the geelong game from the weekend and see how ablett, selwood and co run themslves into the ground and then keep pushing themselves.
in doing this they manage to break any attempt of a tag, where as dal is happy to have a shadow for the afternoon.

Play him on a forward flank and give him a licence to go anywhere on the forward line.
He can take a good mark and being a left footer he would become very dangerous. Dal has skills but will never be a top on baller because he does not attack the ball or man hard enough. Only a fool would have him wasted kicking out from full back as often happens.
I believe if played only as a forward he could become to the Saints the missing link to help out Roo. not many half back flankers will beat him in a one on one marking duel and he has good disposal. Yes i agree, no more playing on the back line for Dal, Ross.

Dal is a great player, but until he can handle a tag he will not improve IMO.
It maybe a fitness issue with his recent illness, but I still feel he needs to cover more ground in an attempt to shake off the tagger.

Don't wait for the light at the end of the tunnel to appear, run down there and light the bloody thing yourself!
