Wont beat the best team while we have this forward structure

Post: # 638028Post borderbarry »

Wont beat the best team while we have this forward structure. We need to find a forward of Charlie Gardiner's size who has talent to give our forward line some bite. we cant rely on Rieoldt and Milne in the finals. Next week we should bring in either Ferguson or Allen. If Charlie could not fire against his old club he never will.

Gwilt or Gehrig or Ferguson or Allen then?

Personally, even though it is impossible most likely I would like to see Fraser play when we make it through to the last day in September.

Even if its just for the purpose of running over people it may make a few Cat defenders think twice about where he is :P

Ferguson... whatever.. we need a 2nd key fwd. Was awestruck watching Barry Hall last night.

The lid is off after Round 2! Enjoy the journey, coz you just don't know where we'll end up. Live for today and seize the moment.

Fraser isn't this type of physical 'take 'em out' player...not sure why many on here go on about this....a huge misconception!!!

Our fwd structure today was confusing - in a T formation from the goal square to CHF...I think it gave the opportunity to double & at time triple team Roo when there was a quick kick out of the centre,,,feel we would have been better off with less numbers and isolating Roo/Kosi with Yapper/Schneider.

The problem is not our forwards.....

The problem is the Cat's midfield vs ours

Ah you read me wrong friend.

Fraser on the lead in the middle of a pack, bumping a defender out of the way is how I see him running over people, not in an illegal Alastair Lynch kind of way

Nothing wrong with the forward structure - its the delivery that was the main problem today. Secondarily some of the individuals had an off day......

Roo - poor game by his lofty standards - we are so reliant on him for 2 reasons - 1/ hes our best player 2/ Kosi and Cg not taking many marks inside 50

Kosi - anonymous up front. his poor form a worry.

Cg - tries, but only getting a gig because Allen/Ferg have not shown more.

Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...

Exactly what I was going to type....

But....

Charlie Gardiner is too slow in both by foot and mind to play up the half forward...

If played his best position would be FP and take some grabs

We are too one dimensional and predictable going into the forward 50 and when we're not the delivery is crap....

I would like to see Fergs given his 3rd chance for the season, he can provide another forward marking option, but I somehow doubt it....

Well there wasn't too much right with the fwd structure if we only kicked 8 gls from only 8 less entries into the fwd 50!
Fair enough setting up how we did in the first half, but obviously not working so try something different. Push a few up towards the midfield, letting them run in with the flight of the ball with Roo and Kosi left 1 or 2 out and a small fwd at their feet, just mix it up a little and not play on the cats terms - they thrive on Harley, Milburn, Scarlett & Mackie's collective run off the full back & half back lines.

Totally agree, but I think the forwards had no room to move so the mids had to pinpoint their passes....just feel we need to protect the ball carrier a little more to enable better execution....with more numbers up the ground this may be a possibility.
We seemed to have to push wide on the lead and no real room to move about in our fwd 50.

Dead right, we dropped protection of the ball carrier today and also did not protect the fringe players at contests so Geelong forced many turnovers here and at HB due to poor delivery.

We know we haven't the same class in kicking to players as Geelong so we must become smarter at protcting the ball carriers.

Interestingly our insiders found it difficult today as Geelong players bundled them out of the way many times to get good clearances.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

A bit of a contradiction - St Fid!!
We are too one dimensional....isn't that why you would change the fwd structure??

Jarryd Allen had 12 marks inside 50 for Casey yesterday.

He would have to be chance for next week?[/b]

The structure is crap, I've been saying it for two years. I'm sick of seeing our forwards getting in each others way.

PLEASE make Gehrig our forward coach next year.

We have Roo, Kosi, Milne, Schnide, X.....Make it work!

Gehrig emerged from scans yesterday saying he was "as sweet as a bun"
