Intimidation the key

Post: # 635350Post jakestar1 »

I think we have to go into the game with a mind set that we have to push the cats around, send them the message its not a one horse race and make them feel every possesion they get, if any.
who agrees

Doesnt work. We need to get the ball and use it well and kick goals early to put pressure on them. No use pushing them around. But the main thing we must do is run and tackle.

I agree with that but I don't think Lenny going up to Ablett or Bartel at the first bounce would do us any harm

We need to gang tackle the Cats from the first bounce - all sides buckle under constant pressure - C wood beat them this way and Hawthorn almost got there - and our our tackling has improved a heap since the Hawthorn game - go get em Saints.

correct.

their style of play is to dominate possession of the football to such an extent that they cannot fail to kick a winning score.

they've consistently racked up 400-plus possessions this season ... a number we've reached in the past fortnight, albeit against lesser opposition.

to beat them you need to have more of the ball than them. easier said than done, i know, but if anyone can do it ...

The key will be to stay focused on our own game plan, as soon as we try to play Geelong at their game we'll get smashed.

Ask Geelong about the intimidation theory.

Worked really well for them against Hawthorn in 1989.
Hawks were busy piling on goals while they were running around like headless chooks on a crazy Blighty mission,

Winning the ball is the best form of intimidation..play the man and not the ball in a final and you will lose.

not suggesting changing the game plan or playing the cats at their own game.

just do what we've done the past two weeks and have a lot more of the ball than the opposition. surely that could not be a bad thing.

If you want to intimidate the Cats...control the ball more, and pressure them when they have it, deny them space to create in with disciplined zoning....that will intimidate them.

Exactly right.

The only way to intimidate Geelong is to go for the ball hard. Dont give 'em an inch.
