Mightnt be a bad idea if it is big enough. Not sure there is a enough room there depending on what they want to build. Also the VAFA are moving I believe.

Plenty of room between the main oval and the golf course, plus there is already some administration buildings there.

The VAFA only use the ground for its Admin and as an Umpires training ground at the moment.

True Believer wrote:Seeing as I can't be farked trolling through 20 odd pages of tripe to locate the exact facts, can someone please confirm that the original deal, at Frankston (where the grandstand burned down), announced with much fanfare and pretty architect's drawings has in fact officially fallen over?
There has been no categoric statement that St KFC has abandoned Frankston Park. However, it has now turned its attention to Belvedere Park.

While papers can be incredibly inaccurate, I think that this article pretty much sums up the situation:

http://frankston.yourguide.com.au/news/ ... 54265.aspx

St KFC’s demands of Frankston Council
the journalist in the local paper wrote:
BELVEDERE Oval in Seaford has been confirmed as St Kilda Football Club's preferred site for an $11 million training centre, with the deal hinging on Frankston Council's approval.

It is understood Frankston councillors are being asked to increase the city's original cash offer from $2 to $3.8 million.

The football club says it wants more money in place of a block of land in Plowman Place, adjacent to Frankston Park.

St Kilda is understood to have put two options to the council when the costs of moving from Moorabbin to Frankston Park blew out by more than $5 million.

One was to forego the land in Plowman Place in return for $1.8 million, the other was that the council inject a total of $5 million for the deal to proceed at Frankston Park.

Views of some of the Councillors
the journalist in the local paper wrote:
Mayor Alistair Wardle remains opposed to giving more money to St Kilda, particularly because the council will have to pay for the maintenance of a proposed third playing field at Seaford.

"Why would you pay more money for the second-choice site given we will be stuck with the ongoing costs of maintaining another oval?" Cr Wardle asked.

Giving money to St Kilda could become an election issue in November with at least two other councillors joining with sporting clubs and residents upset that ratepayers' money is going to an AFL club instead of local sporting bodies.

Council under pressure from the local MP
the journalist in the local paper wrote:
Frankston MP Alistair Harkness urged the council to support the deal.

"The St Kilda Football Club moving to Belvedere Oval will be a boon for the wider Frankston area and will provide numerous benefits for residents, health providers, educational institutions - for the whole region," Mr Harkness said.

"The Belvedere project will transform the oval into a state-of-the-art sporting facility for elite athletes, as well as providing important community benefits for local people.

"The Government and the Saints have both made the commitment to Belvedere Oval and it is now time for Frankston Council to step up and make good on its agreement to sign off on this important project.

"I call on Frankston Council to help deliver this project for the community as set out in the proposed heads of agreement for the Belvedere project."
Perhaps the local MP hasn’t been taking a close enough interest in the trials and tribulations of St KFC. First we were to have a state-of-the-art facility redeveloped at Moorabbin, then we were to get a state-of-the-art facility developed at Frankston Park and the latest state-of-the-art facility is to be developed at Belvedere Park.

At least all of these proposals are put up as state of the art....

Even though we are going from one ground to another to find somewhere to pitch our state of the art tent, you have to admire the way the Saints can find another site as soon as the current proposal bombs....

The grounds I'm talking about are almost on Fitzroy street, between the Junction Oval and the 96 tram line.

We could even train at the Junction Oval during winter with the training facility only 100 metres away at one of the nearby ovals.

It just makes sense.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

Elsternwick Park is an excellent suggestion and would be another great option.

So there would possibly be an opening here, should the board come to their fricken senses, FAIR DINKUM.

Great suggestion

It'll be v4 that will be interesting, although v3 never got the big announcement treatment.

We should have some idea within the next few days what decision (if any) the Council made tonight.

Will the Council find $3.8 million cash for Belvedere Park?

Will the Council consider that $5 million for Frankston Park is a better use of ratepayers' money?

Or will the Council say that the first $3 million offer was the best available?

Or will the Council find it all too hard, and defer making a decision.

So there's an opening on Fitzroy Street?

How unusual.

But to be fair, Elstenwick Park is almost on Nepean Highway which becomes StKilda Road at Fitzroy Street, adn there's plenty of openings there!

From what I've heard, there are different types of openings at Elsternwick Park.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

The inevitable has happened!

City's 'no' to Saints cash bid
http://frankston.yourguide.com.au/news/ ... 60747.aspx

• lack of cash
• community unrest with financially supporting the Saints
• looming election
• resignation of a strongly supportive Councillor.

The vote went 5-3 against the Saints at the Council meeting last night.

still confused- and maybe the reporting
but it says rejected
but then says increased?
THE revised plan to bring St Kilda Football Club to Frankston has fallen through after Frankston councillors voted 5-3 against increasing their cash offer from $2 million to $3.8 million. The change was requested by St Kilda deciding to build its training and administration headquarters at Belvedere Park, Seaford, instead of Frankston Park.

Council on Monday offered the Saints $3 million, leaving the club $800,000 to pay for the upgrade of one of the Seaford ovals to AFL standards

I think its a blessing in disguise - we don't want to be stuck in some back street of Seaford - the location needs to be prominent - maybe Sandy could be put on the agenda now.

Original proposal at Frankston Park was $3 million ($2 million cash and a $1 million property).

Saints asked Council to exchange the property offer for cash (ie Council to tip in $1 million extra cash), and to throw in another $800,000 for the development at Belvedere Park.

The Council agreed to swap the land for more cash, which still made its contribution $3 million, but rejected the request for the extra $800,000.

FANTASTIC NEWS, now can the board please, please, please come to their senses, talk with the bayside council and build this facility at ELSTERNWICK PARK.

Seriously Archie, please investigate this option.

Was first proposed by a St.Kilda board in 1960 as a possible site for a re-location.

48 years later, DO IT, MAKE IT HAPPEN.

I can see the smile in your face. Still the good news is we are no where near Casey in furure except when Sandy play the Scorps away.

Resists the temptation.

Agree though. I initially thought it was going to all work out but it hasn't and it just looks like crap.

I think we need to build a mighty fine erection at Elsternwick Park and maybe a social venue nearby?

A mighty fine erection is needed to ensure we have the best possible training facilities going around. Then we can prick the Lexus Centre bubble once and for all.

Okay, temptation was too great.

I contacted saint66au and as the originator of A thread on what I regard as a very, very serious issue about the future of OUR football club, there was almost one page of pre-dominantly YOU with a couple of others chiming in, hijacking this thread with your inane, piss poor, lame, infantile attempts at humour, to the point where you even requoted a post, word for word, one minute later.

Don't worry I thought you were a dick the first time you posted it, did you really need to repost it.

One post, yeah funny, funny, but 6 posts on the one page with silly innuendo, hijacking a thread on very serious topic, is just showing complete and utter contempt, a lack of respect and as for two bob comedian, reckon that's overstating it a tad.

My great, great grandfather followed OUR club in 1873, when it was formed, from day one and quite frankly, my great great grandfather, my great grandfather and my grandfather would all be turning in their graves with this nonsense about Belvedere Park.

To be honest I never really liked the Frankston proposal to begin with, BUT when that fell over, TO JUST GO HUNTING FOR ANY VACANT LOT in the near vicinity is an absolute disgrace and a fair dinkum outrage.

I am absolutely livid.

ELSTERNWICK PARK is a perfect fit, a perfect location and a perfect solution.

I hope the St.Kilda board see the light and a GRANDer VISION for the future!

Otherwise expect the AGM to be very highly charged and I do mean this sincerely.

To say I am pissed off, would be an understatement.

Carn the Sainters!

Check out the ELSTERNWICK PARK thread and read MR Magic's contibution near the bottom of the page about the benefits and check the link, supplied by SENsaintsational ( thanks )

BUT you will have to wade through a page of infantile nonsense and innuendo,

CAN a mod please clean this up and delete these piss poor attempts at humour?

This is an important issue about the future for this club.

It would be a much better incentive enticing players to our club with a wonderful location such as Elsternwick Park as it would at an atrocious location, Belvedere Park.

I have already asked Archie on Saintcentral and have also emailed him directly on this issue.

Thank you B4 for your erudite comments.

It seems strange for a person who has approximately 2000 threads to his name containing references to "Todger-Tugging" etc., should take exception to the phrase "c**k-up"

I am as passionate and as angry as you are B4, but without the deafening rumblings of my ancestors turning over in their graves. (they were all pommies, unfortunately.)

IMHO, there is no better description of this relocation process other than stating that it is a complete c**k-up, and I stand by that description. Others more versed in the literary arts like yourself may be able to put it more succinctly, but to me that is what it is, pure and simple.

Perhaps if you developed a sense of humour, it might prolong your life as a Saints Fan. Believe me, after 50 years I find it helps. I too am pissed off, but life is too short to let it ruin your whole day.
