cosmo has a good point, they do create the loose man well and run thru.
the get numbers to the footy and back each other up too.
the filth beat them with pressure and man on man footy, giving them no room, and certainly no chance to actually do anything.
they couldnt get that player loose and start running into space.

one thing i'm certain of. if we go into our shells and try to lock it down, we've no chance.
we must continue to take risks and move it quickly as we did on sunday as freezing up will be fatal against such a confident and accomplished outfit.
will help if our defence can be similarly dominant as it has been the past couple of weeks.

It's gonna take at least 60-80 tackles to pull it off.
AT LEAST.
They are so clean with the ball, we have to pressure every single possession to nullify the seemingly flawless skill level they have.
Our forwards need to be as hard as they ever have been. We MUST make the most out of every single F50 entry. Get it in, dont let it out. We have a couple of decent small forwards in pretty good form at the moment.
Mids....More of the same. No easy, soft possession. Just smash their ability of clean disposal. Then hurt em the other way.
As much as it frightens me, I think Kosi is going to be crucial this week. Roo is going to be blanketed as much as possible, yet will still get 12-15 marks....we need a pinch hitter...that will drop forward for 10 minutes and cause headaches...
All that said, if our mids aint on.....it aint happening.
"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

I've heard Gwilts name mentioned a few times during this thread, and can I just say I'm impressed with how has he stepped up to the line just recently! His last two games have been very commendable!! Good for you Jimmy Gwilt! Great stuff!
When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!
Forward line, back line - meh.
The game will be won in the midfield. (Maybe with help from numbers from other areas of the ground, mind you.)
We know that Geelong have a huge number of possessions. Most of these are handballs - over the year they've had 5% more kicks than us, but 36% more handballs. This is because they run so hard to get their handball receives. They actually have had 1% fewer marks than us, presumably because they don't need marks when they're running in such numbers that there's always support for a loose ball get or knock on.
They have had 14% more tackles than us - so they don't only support each other when they have the ball, but the also have numbers near the opposition ball carrier, giving them a heap of pressure at all times. They have had 22% more frees than us, presumably because they are first to the ball more often.
But most important - they have had 19% more hitouts than us. That's about 38 to 32 every game. Their midfield dominance starts with getting first hands on the ball in the ruck. King and Kossie had it easy last week against Bellchambers in his third game, so that needs to give them confidence for an enormous task against Ottens and Blake.
Blake - 21.7 hitouts a game. Ottens - 20.5 hitouts a game.
King - 18.5 hitouts a game. Koschitzke - 6.0 hitouts a game.
We need to win the hitouts to win the game, otherwise we're starting too far behind the eight-ball, against a great midfield.
And we need to win the tackles. I agree with others that 80-odd should be enough to win the game. That's one per player per quarter. If we're not working hard enough to get this number, we won't win. Bring Ball back in for exactly this reason - I don't care if he only plays 60% game time, that's enough for him to be damaging.
And that's about it, I reckon. I'm fairly confident our forward and back lines are at least as good as theirs. It's just the midfield with a ridiculous amount of work to do.
And the coach, to get them confident enough to run in numbers.

If you want to look at one and only one stat as being important for us winning the game (ignoring the score!!!) I think it will be this one.bergholt wrote:

A high tackle count will indicate that we will be switch on witha good workrate...but equally it is vital to tackle Geelong heavily to put them off their game.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
